I went on a what I called a practice date on saturday night and after going on the date I came home and posted on a dating board similar to this-"Just returned home from a practice date"

I was know for not being a good dater so I would just go on dates to meet new people and get betterat dating. So that was working for me and yesterday I get a text saying

"So I was a practice date?"

I was like"HUH?? and then she said-"whatever" What are then odds of something like that happening? I mean to go on a first date with someone who is a member of the same message board? Maybe I used the wrong term and should have said I was back home from meeting a possible new friend. I have never felt so foolish in my entire life

Yeah it was me coming home and running my mouth. It was the fact that I don't go on dates with my PRIMARY TYPE that often so about 3 years ago I started to become less picky and go on dates with girls who were not my primary type so i could work on becoming a fun date.

That's actually a little creepy. You mean to say she found out your identity on that message board, without your knowledge? Is that an easy thing to do?

Not only is the internet just as small as the real world is...its even smaller because on it you can come across way more people on a daily basis than your body can take you.

Oh man though your heart mustve skipped a beat in a moment of panic! But oh well, dont dwell on it. I have considered every so often how I would feel about it if someone I knew was on here or their own problems, put two and two to gether and figured out who I was... Also the big possibility that the girl my ex was/is/whatever lol messing around with reads what I say cause shes stalked me around online before which led to me closing down pretty much anything I had online for awhile there.

At the end of the day though...I dont care. Not sure how Id feel if I found out my ex read stuff but at the same time its not like hed come across anything he didnt hear from me first. And for deeper feelings aout things that I havnt expressed to him, Im sure he wouldnt be surprised to know it. But hes a big supporter in deleting the internet and doesnt like being on the computer at all (except for music and porn...), so the odds of him spending hours snooping around and reading up on all the crap Ive written is next to none...

Anyway, yeah its totally possible she was a member, and maybe you revealed some details that she put it together and realized that you were one in the same. I woudlnt worry about it beyond that.

If you posted that on Philly Yelp or something, I wouldn't be surprised. There isn't anonymity on that board. Philly is a small city and there is so much online overlap.

But if you posted it on a anonymous national board like enotalone, I'd be totally freaked. That is weird.

You aren't reusing usernames for multiple boards are you? If you are, she may have found you through basic Google stalking.

I think she was already a member of the relationship board and I didn't know it. Plus a member on there knows my real name and mentioned it in the thread about the practice date I started which probably made her put 2 and 2 together. The member found out my real name because I had a link to my myspace page a few years ago. She had to already be a registered member of the site to see my Thread about Practice date. It couldn't have been a friend because I never mentioned where I went nn my date just that I just arrived home. So we were both members of the sae site and never knew it

i wonder, at times, if i am ever meeting any LS folks IRL and do not know it.... all worlds are pretty 'small'

This would be why I don't put pictures of myself on LS. Though there's a good chance if you knew me in real life you'd recognize me. Though I'm a pretty open person, so if someone knew me enough to id me, then I wouldn't have a problem with it...

Hahaha yeah, if you know a few distinct features about someone it can be easy. Your name has your location, mix that with specific detail (not sure how in depth you went in your post) and someone mentioning your real name, and that's a dead giveaway.

The internet is a scary place sometimes. Don't know who is reading.

My great fear is my boyfriend will encounter my posts on this board. It's not like I have anything to hide except that while he's reading the New York Times, I'm wasting time on here. :p

Because you're never found without your knitting needles and yarns?

I don't particularly care if I am found out.

I think that my posts are pretty entertaining

Deny, deny, and deny. *awkward*... Something similar has actually happened to me in the past....

Next time, make sure you're airing your dirty laundry in a more private area and place.

Of course that was the plan but she was confident that she was a practice date and told me to piss off.

Even when she sent the frst text saying-"So I was a practice date for you? My reply was "HUH?" and then she replied-"WHATEVER"

Ouch! I guess you have to be more careful what you write now. :)

You have to be really careful with your "anonymous" online posting.

I am 99% sure the last guy I dated saw this site in my Google Chrome history (the welcome screen shows mini screenshots of sites you've recently visited), then visited here and replied to one of my threads asking a very specific question about him. I have some strong evidence that it was him. I also suspect he created an identity and started actively posting. Everything I read for that poster rang true for him. But he's an excellent writer, so I always found his posts entertaining, even though they were 75% rants.

I called him out on it a few months ago, then did not hear from him for a while. Then a couple of weeks ago, I got this ranting, nasty letter in the mail from him, vehemently denying he did it. Now I'm 99.9% sure it was him!

Or, alternatively, stop "practice dating" and start dating your primary type.

Yeah, that is pretty thoughtless.

Makes me want to not post anymore.

Perhaps singleville paranoia has set in? :p

The only message board that ties into you and you profile picture is POF, I always wondered if someone complained about a date they went on, that the other person would see it... LOL

Also, note to self, never put your picture in your AVATAR on this site either. LOL

Though I gotta admit it can be tempting sometimes when you see how much better a person is treated when they look like a cute woman in their avatar. I never realized before how skewed the world was...
