P&R Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 I asked my girlfriend what her "type" usually is and she told me either sweet or sarcastic/smart ass guys. What is the deal with this? I've been hearing women lately saying that they like sarcastic guys. According to my girlfriend I'm a blend of both. Even though it worked to my favor I still do not understand this fasination.... What is so special about guys who are "sarcastic"?
Taramere Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 Well first of all because sarcasm is usually funny. We have a programme on UK tv called "Come Dine With Me"....where strangers lay on dinner parties for eachother, and guests mark the host out of 10 after each party. It's my favourite programme, partly because of the guy who does the sarcastic voice-over - and I know he's popular with a lot of people, male and female. Also, sarcasm often contains insight about human nature - and if it's done in a certain way (ie a bit cutting but not cruel), it can often have a strange sort of compassion about it. That the person sees human flaws, but just being a bit sarcastic about them as opposed to being judgemental in a shocked, bug eyed way.
january2011 Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 As comedians to watch on TV, yes, as romantic partners, no. If you have a certain quality and your girlfriend likes it, I'm not sure I understand why you'd want to question it. Seems like beanplating to me and you might find it more helpful and useful to work on what she doesn't like about you or what she likes that you don't have.
Emilia Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 when sarcasm isn't cutting or hostile, it's really funny. I like cheeky boys, they make me laugh
Cee Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 My teacher once commented that a sense of humor reveals intelligence. I agree with her. I find sarcastic humor cathartic, a release from the daily grind of false politeness.

I feel that sarcasm and wit generally require a certain level of quick thinking and reflect a deeper understanding of a situation. A good memory is also helpful. The girl I recently met through online dating is one of the few women I've ever known who can and will go toe-to-toe with me in the sarcasm department...
LeaningIntoTheMuse Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 Whenever I think of sarcastic humor, I think of John Lennon. He wasn't conventionally attractive, but all the girls dug him, because of his intelligent wit.

Eternal Sunshine Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 I absolutely love sarcastic guys. There is nothing better than witty back and forth sarcastic banter on a date My brother is a pro at sarcastic humor so I grew up with it. We can go on for hours. Actually, it's so important to me that I don't date guys who don't enjoy sarcasm.
Nexus One Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 Not all women like sarcasm though. I know of girls who mentioned they like guys with a happy attitude.
