I'm dating a guy who loves me, but I don't love him back. I'm ready to break it off, but I want to stay friends with him. What's the best way to do this?

The call-me-when-you-want-a-friendship approach? Or could we actually manage hanging out together as long as we're not alone (i.e. with some mutual friends)? Or still should I just tell him how I feel and let the chips fall as they may?

Some general advice would be nice!

You will need to give him time and space to get over you, he also might not be willing to just be friends.

I'm working under the assumption that he will want to still be friends... And I know he will need time and space, but my question is how can I be while he's sorting this out? I don't want to be so close that I tempt him, but I want to be close enough to maintain a friendship.
