Im not really sure of what to do. I started dating my boyfriend in 2008 while we were both in college. He graduated that same year and moved 2 hours away. I am still in college and will be graduating in May. We have talked about engagement but nothing has happened. He just says that he is not ready. We have been dating for 3 years and I want some sort of change. Do you think that it is time for us to break up?.. Or should I keep hanging on and hoping that someday we will get engaged?

Until you have had a relationship that is NOT long distance I'm not sure how either one of you could consider marriage. Before you graduate why not look for a job where he lives so you can at least be in the same area?

If dating that way works, then an engagement will happen naturally.

He doesn't want me to move where he lives. He says that he there is nothing there for me. So I will be moving to a city that will make us 5 hours apart. I told him that I would feel more comfortable about us if we got engaged since the distance will be more, or if he moved down there wth me.

He's already answered you.

I think you guys need to talk about moving to the same city as well. I also think it is weird that he wouldn't want you to move to the same city as him if you were willing to do so. Very strange.

Ask him why. Listen to what he says. If it doesn't make sense to you then probe a bit to understand what he means.

Nothing? but he's there. That might be instructive.

Anyway, do you think there's anything there for you? I mean, not just him, but are there job prospects or continuing education prospects or whatever it is that you want to do? Moving just for someone if it's to go from an LTR to a closer relationship is difficult and risky and can be stressful for both parties. Good luck.
