My girlfriend of over two years and I have recently split up. We have always been a very happy, strong couple and others have always commented on this. About 9months ago she became unemployed, which was heartbreaking for her, as much as she tried she could not find another job. 5 months later she moved away to do a journalism course (about 2 months ago). We still stayed close, texting and calling every day and alternating vistits every weekend.

I know that she is unhappy living away on her course, she used to say things like 'Knowing I will see you at the weekends is what gest me through the week'. Last week she told me that she was not in love with me anymore and hadn't been for a while, however I am having real problems accepting this and I believe that she is depressed and is pushing me away. It has come as a huge shock to me and all friends and family as whenever anyone has seen us together they have always said how close, and happy we are and what great chemistry we have. Which we have always agreed on, there has never been any signs to make me feel otherwise.

I dont want to give up on her, she has told me she wants space and I will give it to her, but I feel so helpless knowing that she is down there alone feeling depressed (not that she will admit it) how do I help her?

Give her space, don't hassle her with calls/texts etc.

She has made a decision, which as you say is out of the blue. Ask yourself what has changed. She has moved away, I feel something has triggered her to do this. I hate to say it, but maybe there has been a change in her personal life, might she have met someone down there?

Do you know she is definitely depressed, have you talked to her about this in the past to believe this?

You will be understandably be going through hell at the mo. All you can do is take things one day at a time, keep yourself busy and talk to friends, family and people on this site, but remember, the more you push, more often than not, the more they pull away.

There is a realistic chance she has fallen for a guy on her course, therefore she has done the right thing ending it, as opposed to cheating on you.

Either way space is all you can do now, as we all know that negotiations only push them further away. If she truly loves you, then I believe she will realise her error and be back.
