I don't know if the answer to this question exists anywhere in this forum, the question just popped in my mind so decided to go for it.

Why does an ex drop crumbs of contact when you are in pain and you are trying to move on. Now please don't generalize to them being mean, not loving you. I know cases on a personal basis and self experienced too that an ex (even if everything finished mutually and on nice terms and that respect is there). If one person is in pain (Or even if not, the other drops some crumbs always maybe sub-consciously)

Why do that if you have no interest in future?

Several off the top of my head:

They feel guilty and think they're being nice and/or are easing your pain

They want to string you along as an option in case their new prospects don't work out

They hope to boost their ego if you respond in a certain way

They genuinely want you back and aren't seeing anyone else (if this is the case, you will be struck by lightning. twice.)

To be honest i think its just a way for them to not feeling guilty about breaking up with you, a way to check up on you and see are you still there just in case their other plans dont work out.

I have always felt personally, that when your ex is seeing somebody else, or "moving on" they love to send a breadcrumb to an ex, its almost like "i have this new person, but also my ex is there just in case" its an ego boost. I really dont think they have your interest at heart. They can always tell their friends "well i tried contacting them and they didnt respond" and you know what, by not contacting them and giving into their little game, you show strength, character and that you wont be disrespected by anybody.

Most people come on here and say "should i contact my ex, what will i say when they contact me?" Obviously every relationship is different, but they are ground rules. You are nobody's play toy, if you have been hurt, disrespected and exiled, you dont owe your ex a damn thing. Be proud of yourself, keep your head up and walk away with respect for yourself.

If in the future your Ex wants you back, i guarentee they will let you know! But until then, dont hold your breath. Meet other people, dont be afraid to take the first step. Whats for you wont pass you.

Can it be said that it might be an effort on some level to be back.. May be its being expressed like this since, the ex is fighting a silent urge to be back..

Flume, what you want them to be motivated by has no influence on the truth. The odds are rarely in your favor. "Bread crumbs" is a suitable name - no matter how hard we might wish them to be "flower petals."
