The last time I contacted my ex was two weeks after the breakup when I mailed her a letter. Three months after the breakup she emailed me to make arrangements to get her bike back. We exchanged a few emails where only the logistics of arranging the transfer was discussed. In person we only exchanged pleasantries and nothing more.

Does the encounter with the bike count as breaking NC even though I did not rehash the r/l or the breakup, and discussed nothing of substance with her? I would think not, but on the other hand, we did see each other in person and interact directly, and seeing her again I realize upset me and set me back, even though I was pleasant and courteous in her presence and acted like I was happy.

that if something borders on possibly being seen as theft down the road it's legit :)

if you'd used it as impetus to discuss your relationship, then I'd say something different, but I think that if anything, you showed her that you were capable of being amicable without being obsessed with her.

She had great timing. We broke up in mid-October and she waited until mid-January to email me for her bike. It was during the middle of funeral arrangements for my grandfather. I was told not to contact her about the bike, just wait for her to do so. I had thought about borrowing my dad's truck and delivering it to her parent's house (which would have been a good three hour round trip for me), but I was told that's a doormat gesture.
