I have seen quite a few women (I'm sure men have these profiles, too) with quite short, but to the point profiles. Usually they range from only 3-6 sentences, maybe no more than 8 or 10.

They're not short, but they're not inordinately long like a full page book report either.

Take this one for instance:

"I can have fun doing just about anything. I enjoy trying new things. Some of my favorite things to do include water skiing/wake boarding, playing golf, watching football, and going to the beach. I can also enjoy a quiet evening at home."

or

"Fun girl who enjoys going out or staying in. I keep myself in shape by playing tennis, swimming, etc. Looking for a nice guy, friends first....I am single, never married with no kids...as of yet!"

Some have said they might not have substance, but I was wondering, should further discussion continue forward into the email correspodence after seeing the ad?

Heck, sometimes, I get tired of reading long, drawn out dating profiles. How about just keep it simple, kind of like the way they do it in dating profiles in newspapers back in the day? lol

This is hard to say without contradicting myself, but you've managed to overanalyze the art of looking at profiles in pursuit of the laziest approach possible.

There's no answer to this. Just do what you feel like. Do what works for you. You can't over-think dating, it mainly just happens if it's right, all you can do is try and put yourself out there. Just stay honest and true to yourself and it'll all fall into place. Thinking too far into it will only hurt you.

My profile is fairly short and vague. It's never stopped me from getting significant numbers of messages. Just write what you feel like writing and don't overthink it.

Girls probably have a significantly more leeway when it comes to vague profiles due to dating sites being overpopulated by guys and will get messaged whether they put anything interesting in their profile or not.

Guys need to do something to stand out a little more. I have a unique profile* which tends to at least get girls looking. Last week I got a message titled "Best profile award" so from personal experience, it helps.

* I'm not going to post it on a public forum because I don't really want my dating profile linked to my LS account :p but if you want to see it feel free to pm me

I think anyone who stumbled on complete psychos realises that profiles mean absolute zero. Once I ended up chatting with this guy who said all the right things online and had a great profile only for me to find out that he took drugs and when he came down the following day he would send angry and abusive texts for no reason.

so yeah... short or long, you never know who you are dealing with

The longer profiles are full of BS anyway, so why not take a chance and email a person with a short profile? I'd judge them by how they carry themselves through emails and IMs rather than just a profile.

Don't bother reading women's profiles. It's a waste of time. Create a cocky/funny spam message and send it to every woman you find attractive and then work from there.

I don't know whether you guys have seen it before, but there's a simply awesome case study drawn up over at OKCupid which reveals some of the secrets and best things to say in a first message. OKCupid is backed up by huge stacks of data so it's more than the average theory you see thrown about.

Check it out - http://blog.okcupid.com/index.php/online-dating-advice-exactly-what-to-say-in-a-first-message/

This is probably what is going to make the difference between finding somebody or having "read and deleted" etched on your screen forever.
