Do you think it's highly unusual for a very attractive woman to eat alone?

I'm kinda weird; I don't care if people think I am rude or impolite. I also frequently ignore strangers who talk to me and I could care less if they think I'm rude. (I'm rude all the time).

I think I'm just self-obsessed and I like to know what people are thinking about me. You could argue that it doesn't matter; since it won't change the taste of my food and since I don't seem to care for friends. I guess I am just nosy and always like to know what people think of me, even if they are strangers. It's a combination vanity or self-obsession.

I find it interesting to know what people are thinking about me.

So you are interested in what people think of you but you wont ask them?

I think you really dont like bieng alone, but you afraid to deal with your possible awkwardness when dealing with people, and youre too proud to say it. if you wonder what people think about you then you really do want friends. Worrying about people judging you is your way of inventing reasons to feel emotions as if you need some kind of emotional exercise in your life because youre bored.

Whatever you think people are judging you as, is what you think you really are. if you enjoy doing that, and being what you think you are, more power to ya. Pretty lonely way to live though. That kinda stuff ages you prematurely.

Not really, I'm 32 and posted my pics on "Guess My Age" type sites just for fun and many people thought I was 23-25.

I don't want to make friends. I am anti social and a lot of times I hate people. I stopped talking to my best friend since high school since she started being annoying. I simply cut her out of my life because I didn't have a need for her. She was not needed.

That made me laugh, but in a good way. I think I'll go out eating in a restaurant ALONE just due to this reply, I'll dedicate the meal to you J200.

The hardest time to do it is on a Saturday night. That's the only time I have to eat out.

Go out to eat - enjoy yourself. Just get a big ol' sign and put on your table that says

"Hey,

I don't want to be bothered!

P.S: **** OFF!

Love

J200,"

That should work, enjoy

Why is that the hardest time, due to restaurants being crowded at that time?

Are you that busy?

Yea, It's me. Believe it or not, I actually got banned for being too hostile/disrespectful to other posters. I couldn't log in with that nick anymore and I lurked ever since. It's been a few years so hopefully the mods have forgiven me. Also I promise not to be hostile and more respectful of other posters. I am addicted to this board.

I've always found you to be an interesting poster. Welcome back. :)

(I used to post here under another name as well.)

I was at lunch with a girl friend not too long ago, and a very attractive man, was eating alone. I mentioned to my friend how attractive it was to see a guy eating alone. Most people are too insecure to go to a restaurant and enjoy a meal alone.

Lunch is easy. Lots of people eat lunch alone. Who actually wants to eat with their co worker? What takes guts is eating alone on a Saturday night (which is what I plan to do regularly). Now THAT takes courage.

Me personally, I don't find it "highly unusual" it even noteworthy. Odds are I wouldn't even notice anyone else in the restaurant for more then two seconds.

Also, it's cause I'm fascinated by the topic of eating alone. I have spent hours reading articles and forum posts about it. I just find it so interesting. Some people are ok with it while other shudder and tremble at the thought. That's probably also a big reason why I care about what people think. I find the topic of eating alone in a restaurant very thought provoking. I think it takes IMMENSE courage and bravery for someone to eat alone in a nice restaurant. It's a big statement to make. Many people will live their whole lives without having the courage to do it. (I'm talking about DINNER, not lunch. Lunch is easier and doesn't count).

Logically, I do not think there is anything wrong with dining alone BUT I have never done it and I have no desire whatsoever of doing it. I asked two of my male colleagues what they think if they see a well-dressed, attractive woman dining alone in an upscale restaurant...they both said...she got stood up...

at any rate, dining and reading a book do not mix.... you can do that with lunch and informal dining but not with upscale dining. It's rude and disrespectful to the chef.

If she got stood up then why would she be eating alone for a long time, ordering tons of stuff, etc?

One would assume that if she were on a date she would wait until her date arrived before ordering. Who orders before their date arrives? Why would she eat for an hour, leisurely by herself? Please ask your male colleagues that.

Have you considered that other people might notice but don't actually care that you're there eating by yourself...?

Just seems awful presumptuous...

Personally I would probably check out a woman if she was eating alone, because it could mean she doesn't have a boyfriend. If I would find her attractive I would try to evaluate her attitude. Is her attitude like "leave me the f*ck alone" or is she eyeballing me too and smiling and perhaps open for approach? If so then I might just go over and say: "Hi I'm Nexus, what's your name? Care for me to join you? Are you single?". But for me to do that she would really need to sweep me off my feet though.

Obviously, they did not put a lot of thought into their response because, I think, they don't really care. It was almost a "knee-jerk" response. Which begs the question, do people actually even care or notice? Which means then, that if anyone wants to dine alone he/she should just go for it, it's not that serious.

I never assumed people would "care". I only asked if they would notice. I have read people post on other places that they felt "sorry" for those who ate alone. I don't need anyone to feel sorry for me.

What does it matter if people feel sorry for you? Aren't you just showing that you care that people feel sorry for you but you don't care if they care? But you really do care if they care, because feeling sorry for someone is caring or not caring - however you take it.

Let's do a poll: do most men think ( or do) this when they see a woman dining alone? I think yes. But that's just because I am conceited :p:D.

I think maybe some of it has to do with the fact that you are a woman. Where I live, women are pretty 'cliquey'. I must admit I sort of am myself. I've never eaten out at a restaurant by myself and I rarely go anywhere by myself unless it's something like grocery shopping or running errands. As far as going out to eat, shopping, going to the theater, seeing movies, etc. I am usually accompanied by at least one of my girlfriends usually two or more.

I don't think people would judge you for eating alone though. Most people in restaurants barely notice their surroundings.

Exactly, most women are EXTREMELY "cliquey". They are always in a herd; at restaurants or at the mall or even bathroom. I cannot even "go" in the bathroom when there are other people around; I gotta wait till it's empty. I am very rare because I am independent and do everything alone; therefore I am an anomaly to most people.

I doubt you are as rare or special as you think you are...there are plenty of women who are "independent" and prefer doing things alone...it's honestly anything remarkable or unusual...

[Do you think it's highly unusual and rare for a very attractive and slender female who looks around 24-25 to eat by herself in a nice restaurant?]

Yes.

[Is it weird to go to nice restaurants alone?]

Hmmm, I wouldn't call it weird, but as you suggested in your first paragraph, it is unusual. As sd81 said its unusual also for a man to go out to a restaurant on his own. The times I do it, it is like you, sitting at a table outside.

[Would you stare if you saw a woman eating alone?]

A little. If she's 'very attractive and slender' then definitely more so, up to a point that it would not seem like I was over doing it. If she noticed me and I got 'negative vibes' look back I would back off on the looks.

[Would you wonder why she has no friends? Would you feel sorry for her?]

It would cross my mind, but I certainly wouldn't dwell on it for more than a few seconds. If the woman is 'very attractive and slender', no I would not feel sorry for her, however If the solo woman was at the other end of the scale in looks, then I would be inclined to feel sorry for her.

[I guarantee that that there will be many people in America who will never be able to eat out in a nice restaurant alone for dinner.]

I agree this. While you might find many of the people on LS will say, 'who cares' when it comes to eating alone, I really think that because it is a rare sight, the majority of people would feel too ashamed to do it. Whether they would conclude negative assumptions regarding any solo diners they see, some definitely would, but hard to say if it be the norm.

No so I don't know what the norm for singles eating out is there. Might be the greatest city in the world for you but not all your customs there don't reflect what goes on in other cities + towns across the rest of the world d1ckhead.
