I got the very same problem with a guy. I don't know what to think, because there are really tons of possible reasons. He might not like you but doesn't want to tell you this directly. He might have figured you are too nice for the game he's usually playing with girls. He might be afraid that you get attached to him and will not leave him alone afterwards. He might think the two of you met at the wrong point in time and doesn't want to make things anymore complicated(which doesn't mean you will perceive it as such). Maybe he means just exactly what he is saying, he likes you but for some particular reason knows that he is not ready to commit to anything which he knows owuld hurt you in the long run so he backs off.
