Just wondering what everyone thinks about the fact that girls are getting more and more into fitness ... lifting weights, etc. I've been talking with a girl at my gym who is incredibly fit. I'd like to ask her out but the thing is I've just started working out and I'm pretty skinny and out of shape.

I can't get past the disparities in our bodies. She probably has more muscle in one of her arms than I do in my whole body ! LOL

She often will lift more than me.

I know in theory a relationship should be all about mutual interests and compatibility and life goals ... but like it or not .... sexual attraction plays a major role and I just can't believe she'd wan to date a guy who's that much smaller than her ?

Any thoughts?

Ask her out. Just do it!

I think it's great that women are getting more active and looking after their health and fitness.

That's a man baby!

Unless she's using chemical enhancements, or you are naturally deficient in certain naturally occurring chemicals in your body, by default, you will gain more muscle, and faster, than she will. All she has is a head start on you. You'll be able to catch up and surpass her, if that's what you want, as long as you have proper nutrition and exercise program. Sorry, the world isn't fair. Men are much more biologically geared toward gaining and keeping muscle.

But really, it doesn't matter. I think muscular women are attractive, except the roided out ones.

As for interest, don't make the decision for her. Ask her. You never know.

Yeah fit women are ideal for me. There's this one woman, she's huge man. Her back is way wider than mine, and her arms are like 1.5 x bigger than mine, and I've been lifting for 2 years consistently. She's definitely on a number of things. But she's got a very pretty face, and a really nice set of breasts, just couldn't bring myself to sleep with her. It'd be like having sex with a roided out guy. :S

Toned women drive me nuts though. Nice firm, curvy, toned legs, glutes, arms, small waist, nice set of breasts. Yaaaaaaaaaow!

I think in general that's true but there's just NO way Im going to catch up with her on the physique front. She is not a roid monster she's just really athletic and toned with some muscle ....which I find really attractive. I just am not gifted in the genetic department to ever be someone that she would find physically attractive ...

The question would be to me .... could she look past that deficiency ?

Man, talk about low self confidence.

Why is that? Do you think you're ugly or are you too skinny? Are you too fat?

You're asking us to guess her reaction based on very little information and despite the fact that you know her better than we do. In addition, with your current mindset, you've set yourself up to fail before you've even left the starting blocks.

I would be lying if I said that appearance wasn't important at all but some charm and confidence can actually get you quite far in dating and in the world in general. Since you're already talking to her, suggesting a coffee or drink after your workouts would not be a huge leap, in my opinion.

I don't get why many slender guys don't look at their daily calorie intake and calorie loss. The average male on an average calm day will burn 2500 calories. If you do fitness training, then you burn a lot more. Yet I see many slender guys complaining about not being able to gain weight, but at the same time eating far less than 2500 calories per day. It's a mathematical equation really.

I've heard about certain olympic athletes taking in 10000 calories per day. Ok that's extreme, but think about it 10000 calories is roughly 3 pounds of fat. Some marathon runners burn 2 pounds of fat in 2 hours. If you're having trouble gaining weight, then it's my guess your calorie intake is too low. Perhaps you could try increasing your calorie intake and combine it with protein shakes to build muscle mass. Working out is one side of the coin, diet is the other side. How many calories do you take in per day? I'm guessing that if you work out daily and have a very active day that you might need more than 3500 calories per day to gain weight. You'd be gaining a pound per week on a 3500 calorie diet in a calm week. If you increase that you might even go faster.

I find that beer helps me put on weight whenever I feel that I'm getting too slim. ;)

Women have been getting into fitness since (at least) the 1970s; it's nothing new.

None of us have any idea whether this girl will be interested in a guy who is smaller than her. Neither do you. The only way to find out is to ask her out.

What do you have to lose? If you don't ask her out, she will never go out with you; if you do ask her out, she might. Not asking guarantees rejection.

Yeah, on average, the majority of people I've seen in gyms are there nominally, just enough to be toned in shape...but doesn't follow a regimen of any sort, but does enough to get by.

But you DO notice the ones that are there 5-6 times a week (I'm always wondering why on a Saturday? LOL)

When I worked for a government, we got a gym membership perk, that we could work out at a certain gym for free if we were a govt employee, a lot of people took advantage of it, but most of them weren't into fitness like a typical gym person.....but they were enjoying the employee perk. LOL

Most of them were hitting the gym 3 days a week (at least I was), but sometimes I'd see a hot chick in a halter top, showing off her great core and all spandex on a treadmill...and my jaw would mentally drop. LOL

Maybe it has to do with those that cover up, and the ones that don't cover up, are confident to show off their bodies and can get away with "hot gym attire"....<shrug>

Right, remember the 20-minute work out, and Olivia Newton Johns "lets get physical"?

Well that was the 80's I thought it started in the 80's actually

I noticed on a dating site recently that most of the females were slender or fit, while most of the males were not.

Maybe we wimmens are putting more effort into our appearance than men are now? Of course I do live in one of the fattest states in the country so who knows.

Here, women hit the gym more than men, although most women only start working out when the summer is near and stop after the summer.

I only work out at home, but I'm naturally fit. I also walk a lot.

Whenever I've looked, I've noticed that most of the men were fit and muscular, and most of the women were gigantic.

A max is the amount of weight you can lift one time, with good form and control. That woman's lower body is in excellent condition. So she can probably squat a number of men's max outs with ease. She's perfect lol.

This gives me even more reason to get into the gym, lol.

Its the wussification of men that's going on right now? Add to that with this crappy economy where more men are out of work than women...No wonder men are down on themselves.

I know right?? I can not wait until it gets warmer...so we can see those nice calves and toned glutes. God, I know I've said this before, but thank you for women.

Signed,

One happy brotha.
