So I kind of have this slight ethical problem...

I'm a guy in my late twenties and I'm obviously looking to find someone to have a meaningful relationship with. I have recently become interested in one of the employees at one of the clients the company I work for deals with. There haven't really been any signs, at least not any clear ones, we joke around a little bit while I help her solve her problems and she seems very friendly. This all happens in person, not over the phone, although there is also going back and forth by e-mail and phone from time to time. I have a certain interest in getting to know her.

Here is my problem. While I think my boss would be ok with me going out with one of our clients if I were to ask him, I do not want to create a stressful work environment for anyone, or potentially cause the loss of a client who is very important to the company. I doubt it would come to that, but causing any friction might cause some reluctance.

Generally speaking, I'm not very popular with women. I'm not in the best of shapes physically, but I dress well and take care of myself. I haven't had many girlfriends, most women I ask out usually aren't interested in me that way.

I'm sure some of you will say I shouldn't be so negative but I'm just telling it like it is.

So what do you think I should do?

Never disclose your relationship status to your employer. If you're going to play it cool, best to play it discreet.

Not quite my question. I'm pretty sure my employer is ok with it.

I'm just wondering how people would take it if I got shot down and things got awkward.

What, are you going to be immensely dramatic about it and jump off a bridge? You move on. Simple as that.
