So i was with this girl for almost two years. I loved her deeply, she was my first true love, etc... She broke it off with me almost two years ago with the typical "I need space/time/lets take a break". I was heart-broken for a long time; and when i felt i was ready, i started seeing someone else and I also had a great relationship with this girl. Sadly, this recent relationship ended almost exactly the same way as the first.

During my more recent relationship, the old ex texted me to say happy birthday. I didnt feel it was necessary to keep NC up anymore (over a year after breakup), so i said thank you and hello to her family. She texted me back saying that she would like to meet up and talk sometime. This surprised me; and I told her "that would be nice, but now would not be a good time" seeing as how i was happily with my newer girlfriend at the time. She said "I agree, you can say when"

I am now single, and her bf recently broke up with her. I do miss her, and I'll always love what we had together, and I miss her family... But i have not fully dealt with my recent breakup which i am still very depressed about.

Do you guys think I should initiate contact? She left the ball in my court (although it was quite a while ago), and I do miss her. I don't have any nasty feelings towards her anymore; although i was hurt very deeply when she left. I don't think I am ready for another relationship, but maybe we could actually be friends now? What do you think?

Lol go for it, my best friend to this day is my first love. A year after our fall out I reached back out to her and we've been amazing friends ever since. Life is too short to look back and go "what if?"
