california15 Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 (edited) I've been exclusively seeing this guy for about 5 months now [no official title yet]. One of this best buddies wedding is next month. He's mentioned it a few times in passing but has not invited me to go with him. Do I ignore that and let the day go by without saying anything? Is it appropriate to mention going with him? We're spending Valentines day together... didn't know if I should bring it up then? Ever? If he doesn't invite me to go as his date, I don't know if thats OK or a problem. Thoughts? Edited February 13, 2011 by california15
Lilmisus Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 Many times you have to let the bride and groom know well in advance (like when the first get engaged and set the date) who all is going to be there, for seating purposes and to know how much food to make. They ask those who come if they are coming alone or if there will be a plus one (date). Depending on when they first got engaged and when you started dating, he could have already told them that he would be going alone, since he may not have been dating you at the time, or didn't think he'd want to bring anybody. To ask you to come along this late (the day before the wedding no less!) wouldn't only be rude, but it would be putting him and the bride and groom in a very difficult spot. If you wanted to go, you should have let him know as soon as you heard about the wedding and thought you would still be together by the time it came along that way you would at least have a chance of going. If he hasn't asked you, don't take it as a bad sign, but as a more of he probably can't or would feel weird doing so out of the inconvenience for everyone involved.
Lilmisus Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 By the way, this reminds me of an episode on How I met Your Mother where Ted wanted to bring a date, the groom said yes, but the bride said no since there was such tight seating as it was. If you've seen that episode, consider it, and consider the ending in how everything went chaotic due to it. Probably wouldn't happen in your case, but hey, just an example
