mh60 Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 My boyfriend of 2 years 1/2 broke up with me January 2nd. He gave me a ring for Christmas and everything was fine. We had some bumps on the road due to his mood swings but always went back together because a lot of love in both part. Now he says that it is it, but send me an email 10 days ago " hope you are well" How shall I interpret it? I did not answer, being so hurt. Now I regret, because I want him back. We are no kids anymore: 50 and 51..so to me that is pretty childish.. Advices please!!!Thank you
lady_door Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Honestly? He probably just cares about you and wants to know how you are doing.
smudge21 Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Reply back in the same manner he has, with something basic but nice. If it starts to lead into something else, just try to remember that he hurt you once already, so if you take him back, you are pretty much giving him the green light to do it again. If he comes back, it's got to be on your terms!
Author mh60 Posted February 10, 2011 Author Posted February 10, 2011 Well, it really looks like he is bipolar. He is not treated, but he is starting to realize that he has a problem and may be going to therapy (good). He admitted it to one acquaintance. So I am walking on egg shells knowing it is two different persons on him, depending of his moods' episodes.
Winterborn Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 hmm, that's a truly delicate situation, and never knew it could happen to the age of 50 too... my suggestion is to not do anything that would push him into a 'mood', I mean try to be nice, calm, somewhat neutral. It's the safest... Your post just made me think my bf might be bipolar too, cause he has the same kind of mood swings...
Author mh60 Posted February 10, 2011 Author Posted February 10, 2011 If you have any doubts about your boyfriend being bipolar, get the book " when someone you love is bipolar" The author is a doctor, bipolar herself and the book is a huge help.
depplover_1980 Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Bipolar is thrown around willy nilly nowadays and is a very serious illness. Most people who think they are bipolar just have bouts of the depression. Mania as a psychiatric state can be pretty severe; when I suffer from mania I am like a jack-in-a-box I dance, spend the day making people laugh and talk such **** I embarrass myself sometimes - it leaves you exhausted. So double check the bipolar diagnosis as it is rarer than people think and should not be used as an excuse for behaviour as luckily with pyschotherapy can be greatly overcome.
depplover_1980 Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Oh and to add 'mood swings' does not qualify. A bipolar person will not have 2 characters, usually more like 3/4 - the hyper goofball, the balanced controlled ones and the depressive irritable one.
