Hey guys,

Need some advice. i am really new at this and wasn't sure how to go about meeting people in coffee shops. I get really nervous when I see someone I like and do not have the courage to go up and meet ppl. Any help would be useful.

Thanks,

In Amsterdam they have special kinds of coffee shops. They're not really my thing as I don't smoke, but they can certainly help a person with getting over their nervousness. ;)

Does the coffee shop you have in mind have an open mic? I used to go to this absolutely adorable coffee shop which had an open mic night every week or so that I would participate in. I always found it was easy to meet people at it, as you could talk to other artists about their work or a bystander about an act. Standing near or next to the person you're interested in and just stating a simple comment on the song or poem, or even saying to someone not participating "Wow, it must be nervewracking to go up there" is a simple way to break the ice. Introduce yourself, and carry on a conversation from there. Its fairly simple to meet people, it just takes some courage to break the ice :]

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, there is no open mic. But great idea with making a comment about the music. I think I may be able to open with the music that is coming out of the speakers.

THanks,
