Sugarkane Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 Hi I'm 23 and stuck in a dead end job. I work in a warehouse and I'm completely bored to death. The company is small and theres no other area I can be switched too. My work doesn't promote people either. I'm not one of those people that always knew what they wanted to do. I really want to do better. I see other people my age that have careers and I envy them. I don't want to live at home for ever either, I want my own life. I've spoken to a careers advisor at TAFE, but all she said to me was "choose anything". This didn't help at all. This is how I ended up in a job, that I hate! When I was in high school, we had a careers test. The top answer it gave me was historian. Something I have no interest in! Please help
ShatteredReality Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 What other answers did it give you? What do you LIKE? Do you like to help ppl solve problems? (Mediator or therapist type job) Do you want to help in communication? (Interpreting type job) Are you into computers? (Network engineering or tech support / computer maintenance type jobs). It's all up to you really? Do you like the medical field? Law? Are you a logical thinker or artistic? You can job shadow for different jobs if you want to see what they are really like, or search the net for different jobs...find out what's in demand in your area, the education required that you may be willing to put in...read what the job is about and go from there. No one can tell you what to do - that's a choice you have to make for yourself.
griffinchicken53 Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 this sounds like me but i'm a few years older. making what i earn now, i'll never get out of my parents' house. i'm sick of all these menial jobs, if i could go back and get more education when it was easier than now when i got more bills.
Owz600 Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 Im 20 and your exact words are mine a few months ago. What I have done is do a list of careers I am interested in, look at your hobbies and interests for ideas. The questions is more 'What would you like to learn' more than 'would would you like a career in'. Do plenty of research for ideas. I have a top 5 now of careers I would like to follow, life is long don't panic too much but take steps to improve.
