makelemonade1974 Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 Gheesh, this came out of left field. My ex left me abruptly and then silence silence silence. I've tried to contact him a few times (probably more than I should have), but every time I've said I loved him, I was sorry, etc. etc. I've been in therapy since and suspect he has NPD, but not certain. It was an emotionally abusive relationship. Tried to return some of his stuff last week - put a few books in his mailbox that I'd borrowed. He returned two of them (which were obviously his - no question) claiming they "didn't belong to him" on a post-it. I wrote back - in a very different tenor than I have used in the past (I love you, I'll wait for you etc. etc.) and said "these are your books so quite playing games, give me back such-and-such dvd that you have of mine, and get some therapy for your head problems." I didn't check my box for nearly a week and then I looked today and there's my dvd and a poem. The poem is "shadow" by Billy Collins - it's about being depressed and longing to be adrift in a boat on the sea without contact with anyone. It's kind of a poetic way of telling me to shut-up I guess. But a poem? What the heck? It had the desired effect I suppose. Cried for about a half hour. It's like he's trying to prove to me that he has feelings or something. But if this is so hard for him, and if he supposedly loves me (like he's told our mutual friend), then why the heck does he want to be alone in a boat on the sea in silence? It's been 4 months. Just when I was doing better. I'm not responding btw. Just trying to make sense of it.
