I had lunch with a friend who described the same desperate scenario you presented... depression & extreme moods from a disfunctional thyroid and the onslaught of menopause. She recommended a book: Balanced Medicine published through Prevention. The book teaches a balanced treatment involving diet, medicine, herbs, and some of the mideastern holistic methods most of our U.S. doctors have yet to explore. Maybe it will help you. (Hope so).
