Hi all, I hope that this post does not offend anyone, but my girlfriend of about 6 months is Mormon. At first, I just accepted it as what it was - I figured the teachings were relatively close to Christianity and all that. However, just recently, I was reading up about Kollob and all that weird stuff - and just in general, about Mormonism. It is really weird to me. Not right at all, especially their views about women. She is not super devout, but I asked her if she believed that stuff and she said she had no reason not to. It kind of weirds me out. Does anyone have any experience/advice regarding a relationship with this sort of reality in it?

If she is young and it is the religion of her family, she may not have gotten to the point of individuation enough yet to critically analyze everything she was raised with. Many people, even a lot older, and in positions of power believe illogical things. There are museums where there are statues of dinosaurs with saddles on them, and certain congressmen said that a display of Noah's ark would include dinosaurs sauntering up to get on... The list goes on, and on....Oh, Glen Beck is Mormon, and quite a few on LS think he is a brilliant man..

Okay... her personal beliefs differ from yours. Ask yourself, does this affect your relationship with her?

Will it in the future? If so, would it be worth staying in a R with her? If you choose to stay, how will both of you deal with the differences in your personal beliefs?

To some, religious differences are a dealbreaker. Others work around them. My stbxH was kind of strange as far as what he believed. I tried not to judge, and tried to help him find books that would assist him in exploring his spirituality... but TBH I thought he was ****ing bat**** crazy. He would always see ghosts and feel spirits, and weird things. I believe in such things but I really think he has some Schizophrenic issues going on.

I personally am a Christian with a lot of Pagan beliefs mixed in as well. I am trying to learn to balance the two. So I guess my future mate will have to be a bit religiously open as I was with my stbxH.

I have a Mormon friend. She explained her beliefs to me. They are not too far from Christianity... not as far as Eastern Religions especially. So maybe you can build on the common belief grounds you do share as a start? As for the differences.... perhaps just agree to disagree. And also... lots of people convert to Christianity later in life (I did), so it's also possible that she might convert to something a little more... mainstream?
