I agree with tojaz. It's not the medium. Cheating was around long before facebook and it'll be around when it's long gone.

Does it make it more available? Perhaps.

The more concerning aspect of all of this to me is that it has almost gotten to a point where it seems socially acceptable. It's like we've lost our ability to control our own selfish, destructive actions.

I look at my own situation, my wife who is a good person (I've known her for 20 plus years) ended up cheating. She did so I believe at least partially because of some sort of twisted logic whereby she was 'entitled' to do because she was unhappy. Now she didn't use FB, but she did meet her AP through another online community.

I work in the IT field and have so for longer than I'd care to remember and technology when used properly can yield fantastic results, but when mis-used can have devastating consequences, not unlike many products and services out there.

Exactly. The device, the technology etc. makes no difference. At last count I own over 20 firearms, in my hands none of them have ever been fired at anything other then some unlucky pieces of paper, even though each one was designed specifically to make harming someone else easier. That same collection in someone elses hands???????? Weve all seen the news.
