Do you know anything about the accuracy of lie detector tests? Just a thought...it would be a great deciding factor to see if a guy is worth commiting to. Like an entry exam (so sorry) that a guy must pass in order to be your boyfriend!

lol, always in search of the truth!

I have thought the same thing, myself LOL. Mind you, I suppose it would be only fair to offer to take one in return. Could you pass? :);):D

... Or to find out if your boyfirend/girlfriend really cheated or not. / If and to what extent current love interest has strayed.

(please excuse my fixation with the topic)

...having visions of taking one with the lines zig-zagging off the friggin page......

....then having to smile politely and say....."Oh, okay....lets forget THIS idea!".......

:D

I was agreeing with the idea until Moimeme suggested 'both' parties take it!

of course....as long as ever being unfaithful is the only sin being tested for..... :p

Lie detectors are very accurate unless you are a sociopath. But that would be great if it was a requirement (for them). It would also be nice to talk to former girlfriends to hear the other side of the story. There is always a private investigator. ;)

The lie detector tests use a number of factors - such as brain activity, heartbeat, and breathing - to determine whether it is more probable to be true or false. Thats why they begin by asking some basic questions to set the normal 'true' response, and then any discrepancies are probable to be lies. The thing is, they can be fooled. Its not the easiest thing, but its not all that hard either. That is why they generally are not admissible in court. It is usually accurate though not very close to 100%, because most people do not try or do not know how to beat the lie detector. Now, I've never tried to fool one, nor have I taken one, but I've heard lots of things about them, and I believe that I've got the general idea on how they work and how accurate they are. I could be terribly mistaken though too - in which case, please correct me.

I would never take one for such a reason.

I've been told, recently by my husband, that there is all kinds of information online on how to pass one (if you are in fact lying).

Oh well, fragilenone. So much for that plan LOL. Guess it's back to the mindreading classes...

I have learned from someone how to beat or tie a lie detector test. He said that he wasn't the BEST at it.....but he could tell a lie that would get flagged as "inconclusive." I'm sure with a little practice with the right technique you could go from inconclusive to telling lies which appear to be truths. I don't think most people know how to beat it though.....so you're safe. (unless all the info is online lol).

The newer types are actually 99 percent accurate. They measure your vitals and stuff before, during, and after and the computer adjusts. So being really nervous would not effect your results. It is easier to fool older lie detectors but the new ones are almost impossible to fool.

To add my thoughts, if my girlfriend asked me to take a lie detector test I would be offended that she doesnt trust me. I would still take the test because I wouldnt have anything to hide but I would never ask her to take one.

Tread carefully - Some of us military guys are trained to pass the polygraph! :D

BTW from what I was told..."If you don't think its a lie..then it's not"

Thanks, Pure for that resourceful information! Just out of curiosity how new are the newer lie detector tests? Meaning, how long have they been out, etc.

It's pretty easy to tell when someone is lying when you have the facts. For instance, I used dialacheater.com on my last girlfriend who was cheating on me.

I found a suspicious phone number on her cell phone. Asked her about it and she told me it was someone from her work. Just for my own sake I plugged the number into the dialacheater.com form thingy and waited for her to answer it. I asked her who called, hoping she would say someone from her work, but this time she told me it was an old school friend. I just hope I don't have to use it on my new g/f. :)

Pretty easy bust.

i am the worst liar in the world, and when i got hooked up to one of those things, i was so nervous everything i said registered as a lie. which of course it isnt. honest.

The way to beat these machines is by singing a nursery rhyme (ie. Mary had a little lamb) over and over in your head through the whole question progress. Your heart beat will stay constant and your breathing will remain normal.

Fact: lie detectors are wrong 70% of the time. So, no they aren't accurate.

This would be unethical. I would never agree to something such as this, even if I had nothing to hide. If I for some reason did agree to such a circus act I would demand that my potential partner answer my questions as well.

Lie detector tests are highly accurate for certain things. For dating potential, however, maybe not so good.

I see exactly where you are coming from, Faux.

If the idea/thought of having to use a lie detector comes into play within your relationship based on mistrust, then there isn't much hope for the relationship, period.

That's where I am now. No, excuse me...I am at the point of bettering myself to further my options....
