mlchris2 Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 What do you all feel is "acceptable" age difference when dating someone. I've had some flings with older women (I was 28 and she was 45) and as I look back have dated girls 4-5 years younger than I am. My late wife was 5 years younger. I'm questioning if I am somewhat of a perv because of my past dating habits or if women actually see this as a deal breaker... your thoughts and opinions????
Titania22 Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 No problem from where I sit, but I am notorious for my love of younger men. Who cares what anyone else thinks anyway?
JohnnyBlaze Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 I don't know what the ladies think, but there's no problem, as far as I stand. Heck, my dating range is pretty much on par with yours. It's whatever works for you and her, really.
Jazzari Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 If both people are happy, then I'm all for it. As for personal preference, I don't care for men that are younger than I am. My husband was 3 years younger so I'm flexible to some extent. But as a rule, I prefer my own age or slightly older.
Romance Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 I think once both people are over 25 it doesn't matter at all. When both are over 21 it also is a bit easier. A 19 year old dating a 29 year old is just..awkward. Different life places and cant even go into a bar. A 30 year old dating a 40 year old? Not that big of a deal.

I'm questioning if I am somewhat of a perv because of my past dating habits or if women actually see this as a deal breaker... your thoughts and opinions???? no such thing as "acceptable". my last ex was 21 when we met and I was 36 and we clicked well, last time I saw him was just before his 23rd birthday and we still fancied eachother like mad, the chemistry hadn't died yet. a 24 year-old told me a couple of days ago the would only want me for sex, I'm too old for dating from his point of view, I am having a date with a 28 year-old this Friday and I saw an 18 year-old checking out my profile who says he finds women over a 'certain age' contacting him creepy (yet he still wanted to look at my photo, don't know what 'certain age' is for him). there is no answer to your question. some like it some don't. I like men my age too, I find 60 year-olds writing to me creepy because they are about to hit pension age. there is no account for taste
Eeyore79 Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 I find a ten year age gap to be a little creepy, and would be put off a guy if I knew he'd been dating women who were ten years or more older/younger than himself. Less than that is pretty much ok, and 4-5 years isn't even an issue. I always used to date older men, and when I was very young I briefly dated someone who was nine years older than me. With hindsight, it was creepy because I was a teenager and he was an adult with kids! When I was 29 I again dated someone who was nine years older, and it wasn't creepy because we were both adults. Since I turned 30 I only date younger men, but I draw the limit at a five year age gap. I feel that a greater age gap will result in us not being at the same life stage; a man who is more than five years younger than me won't be ready to settle down and get married. The reason I stopped dating older men is because at my age an older man is typically at a different life stage; men in their thirties are often divorced and/or have kids. So I think the key thing is not necessarily the age of the person, but the life stage they're at - if you're both at the same life stage then dating isn't a problem. This is why a 40yo dating someone in their fifties is fine, but a 16yo dating someone in their late twenties is not fine.
Author mlchris2 Posted January 19, 2011 Author Posted January 19, 2011 I agree with the rest of you on the whole age difference topic. okay, so I don't feel like such a perv.. lol
daphne Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 5 years up or down. Unfortunately, I have been seeing someone who is 7 years behind, and not sure what I think about it.
Jynxx Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 age of female >= (age of male)/2 + 7 if both are above legal age anyway
