Ive been in an interracial relationship for over a year and its been the best relationship that ive ever been in and we are actually engaged and very happy. i am muliracial(mostly black) and he is mexican. i recently saw a True Life episode where IR couples were discriminated against. i was just wondering if anyone feels or if they know anyone who feels that interracial dating is wrong. is anyone here in an interracial relationship? do u have any struggles? we dont get any rude comments or anything but ive noticed that black men are usually the ones giving us dirty looks. we dont care ,we are in love and love showing it. Any stories from anyone?

I have went out with girls of a different nationality, race. It is actually a very refreshing treat. Especially the females that do not have the recent American mentality.

I have went out with girls, such as yourself, multi-racial as you put it. The only problem I had was choosing which person I didn't give a ***** about that had an issue with it.

I've done interracial dating and it really is an uphill battle. I live in NYC and while, for the most part, people are "accepting" (aka tolerant) over interracial couples, it is still somewhat taboo. We got the stares.....a lot. I really didn't care and he was too aloof to notice so it didn't affect us too much. The issue came with his family.

We were dating for about a month when he decided I should meet his parents. He warned me off the bat that his dad had an issue with our dating. While his family was very nice and welcoming towards me, I still felt weird. They were an old school Irish family so it was difficult for them to see their son with someone who wasn't Irish.

I ended up breaking up with him for other reasons but on some level I was just a little put off that in this day and age, people still have problems with interracial dating. I didn't see a future in being part of his family.

Good luck to you in your relationship OP- no matter how "far" we've come, it'll always be like we're still living in the 50s.

I dont see skin colors.

But I see cultures.

I judge someone based on what he/she believes in not what he/she looks like.

I am biracial myself but look like I belong to only one race. I did a lot of interracial dating back in the day, and it was never a big deal to anyone as far as I knew. My grandfather probably wouldn't have liked it if he knew about it but he was a horrible person and I never consulted him about my love life anyway. I knew a few black women over the years who had a problem with black men dating white women, who felt hurt by what they saw as a fetishization of white women. I thought that hurt was understandable. I have also known Asian women who were annoyed by white boys fetishizing them, also understandable. In general though my area is a pretty big melting pot and most people don't look twice at an interracial couple.

I'm biracial (black/white) but most people think I'm Indian, which I guess is cool because I have a thing for Indian guys and I confuse even them.:laugh: Anyway, I've only been involved with white or Indian guys. In some situations when I was involved with white guys, they would make statements reflecting their ineptitude in dealing with racially charged situations, like "You're the first (black/non-white/etc) girl I've been with." An ex of mine told me one day his friend had asked him what it was like "to have sex with a black chick.":rolleyes: I think a lot of it depends on upbringing. In those situations I found their overall socialization was sorely lacking in diversity (mine was too, but I was always sensitive to race because I stuck out like a sore thumb in my school and even in my town).

Living in California, I cant imagine anyone staring at interracial couples.

Maybe its only if you are in Arkansas or Vermont. :D

My home state...from experience I would say that quote is true.

Personally I've never understood why black women don't go after asian men in higher numbers... or vise versa.

In terms of fetishizing women by race... I once had a friend who was african american tell me he thought it was because of watching porn as a youth. I don't really have a racial fetish, so I can't comment on it... but it is an interesting theory!

I've been to most major U.S. cities at one point, and in my personal opinion Philly is one of the worst. It's just a rundown cesspit. When visiting I was actually advised to not make eye contact with strangers.

I'm white and my gf is black (haitian)

We get rude stares occasionally, but we also get weird stuff, like some old white dude came up to us in CVS and showed us a picture of his half black granddaughter... we smiled and were like oh how cute.... but it was totally odd and random, I guess he just felt the need to be "supportive"

RE that True Life episode.

I actually almost was on that one, I live in CT and MTV does a lot of their filming in CT, NY and NJ, and at the time I was with my ex of 7 years (shes Chinese) we were actually contacted a dozen times, sent in pictures, detailed info etc etc and they said they wanted us to be one of the couples they filmed, but I noticed that they kept pressing us to talk about how hard it was to be IR... the truth is, outside of a few small cases it wasn't hard at all. It was pretty normal. I think that turned them off, so they went with some other people instead... just thought I would share that.
