Cassandra92 Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 What song has been helping you the most through your break up? Angry, sad, happy, whatever it is, post it here and maybe it can help somebody else. I've been listening to Silver Springs by Fleetwood Mac. Even though it seems to be about a man who has moved on with another woman and that's not the situation I'm in, I love the line, 'I know I could have loved you but you would not let me'. Also Stevie Nicks' voice is awesome and powerful, you can feel the emotion in it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MpDvJTXkIYU
aerogurl87 Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 Break Even by the Script. "One's still in love while the other one's leaving, cause when a heart breaks no it don't break even."
Duckduckgoose Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 Hollywood Undead "Black Dahlia" Its not a clean song, but the song has a lot of raw emotions behind it.
january2011 Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 Mine from another thread: Reminder: (I still tear up listening to the lyrics - more of simple and plaintive 'young unrequited love' feel) (ditto - as he's singing, his face and eyes say it all, he's really feeling the raw emotion and at some points his voice breaks and you can see the hint of tears in his eyes, it takes all his willpower to carry on and complete the perfomance) (yes, it's Disney and I'm not going to apologise for it ) Hate: (angry but raw) Healing: (a bit of feisty Amy gets me through some down moments) Now: 宇多田ヒカル - First Love (even though he wasn't but it's the song that I can't shake at the moment, despite not understanding the Japanese bits)
Author Cassandra92 Posted January 12, 2011 Author Posted January 12, 2011 Hedonism is a really good song!
january2011 Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 Hedonism is a really good song! Oh I agree - a perfect blend of anger, pain and melancholy. The video is a bit creepy though.
Author Cassandra92 Posted January 12, 2011 Author Posted January 12, 2011 I think it's amazing how much music can help, even if it's just for the duration of the song. Another favourite is The Con by Tegan and Sara. I try to forget that I recently saw them live with him, and focus on how I have always loved this song and how I can relate to it:
Feelin Frisky Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 (edited) I thought this was about "break up" songs--not recovery songs. Since I don't think anything helped me recover, I'll just give the break up song that rips me up--even now when hearing it: Didn't We Almost Have it All - - - Whitney Houston. *wipes tears* Edited January 12, 2011 by Feelin Frisky
radrluv72 Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 "Silver Springs" is a great one...for my recent breakup, I could probably fill a whole iPod's worth, including that one...but I think the one that would best reflect my recent breakup is "Killing the Blues" by Allison Krauss & Robert Plant.... "Now you ask me just to leave you To go out on my own and get what I need to You want me to find what I already have..." The one I can't bear to listen to though, is "To Make You Feel My Love", in almost any version...Garth Brooks, Adele, Trisha Yearwood...my ex left me because he thought I was too good for him. If I was still talking to him in the sense of a possible reconciliation, that would have been what I would have dedicated to him...but it's day 12 of NC. Listening to that song is too bittersweet for me to handle.

Was introduced to it via Ronan Keating's album dedicated to his mum and then found out afterwards it is a Bob Dylan song. Also listened to this a lot (it's from the same album): (though I'm neither an OM or OW) It's a cover of a Sugarland song. Edited January 12, 2011 by january2011
lee123 Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 Can't believe nobodies said Don't look back in anger yet. Amazing song.

Good Arms Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 Don't know about it helping me through, but this song cuts me up - One of the most beautiful yet sad songs ever, I always liked it but never truly related to it... until now. "If you don't want to be with me just say and I will go"
DellPickle Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 The Heart of the Matter - Don Henley The first one Ive used since high school....the second, is one Ive discovered very appropriate over the last year

denise_xo Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 Cranberries - No Need to Argue Blossom Dearie - Edith Piaf - Amadou & Mariam -
melenkurion Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 "Defying Gravity" from the Wicked sound track. I've listened to that countless times. That's worked better than anything for me. At the moment "dry your eyes mate" and "empty cans" by The Streets are both helping.
melenkurion Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 "Lucky You" by the Lightning Seeds. I just love the first few lines. For sone reason my cheating ex always hated that song.
Melodie Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 Burn - Usher. Don't think I could listen to it right now but cause I am going through it. Ha ha. You Outta Know. Definitely A good one!
