pandagirl Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 So, lately I've been feeling sad about my ex. I think it's the time of year. It's cold, dark, etc. But I'm pretty darn tired of thinking about him! I decided that maybe I'm ready to really move on, and to test that, I signed up for Match. (I was going to do OK Cupid since it's free, but that's how I met my ex, and I didn't want to run the chance of seeing his profile pop up.) I figure either two things will happen: 1) I'll go out on some dates and realize I'm not ready to date and stop or 2) I'll have fun and it'll be all good. I've haven't been on a date since breaking up four months ago, so I definitely think I gave myself enough time to be alone. I think just meeting new people will be good for me. 2011! yay! haha.
Author pandagirl Posted January 11, 2011 Author Posted January 11, 2011 Now I remember why I swore off online dating. Just got a few messages that obviously paid no attention to what I wrote. It's like a dating factory and I'm just a product on the conveyor belt.
carhill Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 Hey, if you want to wear my underwear, post up a profile using your ex'es pictures and see how fast your e-mail box fills up Anyway, good luck. Sounds like you're ready to test the waters. Keep us posted
Author pandagirl Posted January 11, 2011 Author Posted January 11, 2011 Haha, thank Carhill. It's not that I'm conservative, but I guess I just have old-fashioned values? I want to be properly courted! Online dating just doesn't lend itself to that...
Nukulus Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 Hey me too! Though I'm a guy so I suppose it could be different. It's my first foray into online dating, so I'm still wondering what is the best way of handling things like... If you get winked at and you're interested do you wink back? Email? If you get winked at and not interested? Do you say nothing? Thanks but no thanks? If you get emailed and aren't interested? haha I just want to make sure I'm not being rude or anything if I don't respond. I just don't want to lead people on... Also for girls... If you view a guys profile does that mean you are more likely to respond to any email/wink or whatever? I assume it indicates some type of interest... p.s. sorry for thread hijacking I just figured we didn't need two new topics about Match...

Too much window shopping, but to answer your questions...... If winked at, and not interested, hit the "thanks but no thanks button" I was always proper with emails, I would write a 1 liner saying thanks, good luck, but not interested. It always made me question when you put effort out there with a wink, or email, and can't get a response from someone. I know not everyone is interested, but goes a long ways to be polite (something I never really found from people on match). Good luck
br0ken_w0lf Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 Haha, thank Carhill. It's not that I'm conservative, but I guess I just have old-fashioned values? I want to be properly courted! Online dating just doesn't lend itself to that... Well, it does and it doesn't. Just like in real life, you'll get the "yo baby, wassup, you are so hot" approach from some guys and then you'll get the guys who actually read profiles, reference them when contacting you, ask questions, etc. I was on another site before and so far I prefer Match by far. More relationship-minded people in my opinion. Hey me too! Though I'm a guy so I suppose it could be different. Personally, I don't believe in winks and silly stuff like that. I'm a guy, and I'm interested in someone, I take the time to actually write a message to them (the subtext being that I consider winking lazy because it requires no effort). Of course, if someone I was interested in winked, I'd follow up with an e-mail. As for the other situations, I'm still working on what is best... Cool, my first multi-quote post!

justme9 Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 good luck with match! believe me, i never thought i'd try online dating, but somehow i managed to find a keeper: i met my current boyfriend online (match) and we'll be together a year this february. keep your mind open and you never know what might come of it! p.s. i agree with the being polite tip and at least responding if you aren't interested. also, i found that being the girl, you may need to reach out to the guys. i don't know why this is, but it seems that the dates i went out on, and eventually the one with my current bf, was the result of me initiating conversation. best wishes!!

It's only been one day, but already I feel like I can't stomach it! haha. It's just browsing through all these people. Hard to get excited about it.
