I have a Foreign penpal, waste of Time?

Hi all.

as you may have read i'm friendless and never had a girlfriend but i have a female penpal from a foreign country for like 2 years already. We are good friends and it's great.

 

But i wonder if it's a waste of time cause people start getting feelings but i'm not a rich guy who travels. I"m the poorest of the poor. So probably will never even meet

It's not a waste of time, depending on how you look at it. Would you consider making friends and meeting new people in "real life" a waste of time? This is just a different way of doing so. I have a strictly online friend that I will likely never meet in real life, but I certainly don't consider the friendship a waste of time. I think she plays an important role in my life; one that someone who lives much closer to me couldn't.

 

You seem to be more focused on any possible feelings developing; is that it? Have you already noticed this happening? Or are you just worried that this could possibly happen, and then you'll find yourself in the hurtful position of realising nothing could come of it? If both, or either, of you have started to develop feelings but you don't want it to go anywhere, I would definitely back off in the friendship/talking for a bit. If you've already decided you don't want a LDR to happen, then you'll only be playing with fire if you continue talking all the time and forming an attachment. However, if neither of you have developed feelings yet, then I wouldn't worry about it right now. No use getting ahead of yourself . You seem to be under the impression that it will be inevitable that you'll develop feelings for one another. This is not necessarily the case, and it certainly isn't worth throwing out a perfectly good friendship over!
