Can we play nice people?

I am proposing a few new year's resolution on behalf of LS. :bunny::)

1) If somebody starts a thread that isn't obviously inflammatory, be nice. Don't put that poster down, or make judgments on their character or emotional health. If you feel that they are being self-defeating, then point it out to them, but don't turn that into a generalization of who they are. In other words, point out the behavior that you feel could use correcting rather than targeting the individual.

2) If somebody is being insulted in a thread and they decide to come to their own defense, don't criticize them for doing so. That is their right, and whether defending themselves is the best choice, it is a perfectly understandable one. Just let it be.

3) And for god sakes don't call somebody judgmental when you are judging them just as harshly, especially if they are only judging others in response to repeated personal attacks.

4) Don't stalk people's threads, dropping in nasty/snarky remarks, particularly ones that bear little relation to the OP. For example if somebody starts a thread asking for advice on a cooking recipe, don't turn that into an opportunity to remind them of how they screwed up with their ex. Is that really necessary or helpful?

5) Finally, don't think it's OK to be nasty if you disguise it with semi-ambiguous language, emoticons or he guise of "altruism." Most of us aren't idiots, and will pick up on the sneak attacks, especially when they're not done very subtly and there's a clear pattern of them from certain users. Don't play dumb after the fact and cry foul.

I think if we can all agree to these resolutions this will be a far happier and friendlier place.

I don't want to see any negative, nasty or bitter responses to this thread. If you don't agree with my resolutions, then fine, you don't have to follow them. That's your choice. Any negative response is in violation of the resolutions above because it just fuels the fire and endless ugliness. I won't be responding to such comments.

So, let's start the slate clean. Right here. Right now. And play nice. Sound good?
