OceanGirl Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 One of the potentials from OKC asked me for my phone number today. I gave it to him and he called. We had a long chat and I really felt comfortable chatting to him. He asked me what I am doing for NYE and I whinged that I am spending it with parents. He said that him and his group of friends are going to listen to some live band and asked me if I want to join them. We agreed to meet up at his house and have a couple of drinks first at 7pm and then go to the live band at 8pm. I know it's kind of dangerous going to someone's house that you have never met before - but I find it exciting too! He is 35, cute, dark hair and blue eyes - athletic and can hold a conversation. I will call him guy #5 from my multi-dating thread. It's kind of fitting that I end 2010 on an online date! Now what to wear.......
USMCHokie Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 Well congrats, have fun! I will continue whining about staying home by myself for NYE.
Star Gazer Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 I know it's kind of dangerous going to someone's house that you have never met before - but I find it exciting too! Does this fit with your resolutions?
Author OceanGirl Posted December 31, 2010 Author Posted December 31, 2010 Does this fit with your resolutions? Well I said nothing about going to stranger's houses lol. It didn't sound like he wanted to have sex or anything. More like a quick get to know you before we meet up with his friends. I am not sure if he is a LTR candidate but there are no real flags that say that he isn't. He is not any of the guys I have mentioned before - this is a brand new one. He texted me to ask what kind of wine I like to drink and he is going to pick up a bottle. I thought that was sweet
Author OceanGirl Posted December 31, 2010 Author Posted December 31, 2010 Well congrats, have fun! I will continue whining about staying home by myself for NYE. LOL my strategy was whine about it to absolutely everyone you talk to. Someone is bound to invite you to do something....
USMCHokie Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 LOL my strategy was whine about it to absolutely everyone you talk to. Someone is bound to invite you to do something.... That was my strategy too...but I ran out of people to whine too...
zengirl Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 While it's 90% that it'll be fine, I'd plan something for the 10% chance he's a lunatic. . . like letting people know where you are and asking for a check-in call or planning a text out. (So you don't look rude, warn the guy you'll be getting a call within the hour or, if you text out at a certain time, go to the bathroom then or something.) It really is a bit risky to do a first-meet at someone's house.

I have never done the first meet at someone's house because of the risk - but it made me feel more relaxed that we talked on the phone.
Author OceanGirl Posted December 31, 2010 Author Posted December 31, 2010 That was my strategy too...but I ran out of people to whine too... I nearly did too. This came with 12 hours to go before NYE. I was lucky (or unlucky if he murders me tonight )
alphamale Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 Now what to wear....... make sure to wear some sexy heels
zengirl Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 Yeah, I will be leaving his address with my friend and she will be checking up on me in hourly intervals. I have never done the first meet at someone's house because of the risk - but it made me feel more relaxed that we talked on the phone. Good plan! And I forgot how close to NYE it is there. I've lived on that side of the world before, in the future, but now back, in the past, in America, it's still the 30th. I celebrate all day on NYE (well starting around lunchtime), and I can't wait! Love it!
SunsetRed Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 OceanGirl, I am doing the same thing you are!! I can't believe it! I've been lurking around Plenty of Fish for a while now. I joined the site to get my mind off of my ex who recently shattered my world and broke my heart. Up until this week I've met creepy guys who made me miss my ex more. Then today I got a message from a guy who has the same quirky combination of hobbies and spiritual views that I do. I've been so down about how this year is ending and how the new one might start out and today when got this message from someone who has the exact, unique taste in hobbies that I do...well the opportunity to meet this person seems to good to pass up. I didn't pretend to be a busy socialite when he asked me about NYE. Instead I kept myself open, so now instead of feeling sorry for myself and being lonely, I'm going to take an adventure and spend time with a stranger I met online! Hey, even if our dates suck, we can still say we were adventurous instead of sad and mopey! Being adventurous and open to opportunity is a great way to start 2011! Hopefully we'll be here to post on Jan 1!
tigressA Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 Count me in for craziness! I'm set to spend the entire day tomorrow on a first date with a guy I met online; a huge nerd who has a sport bike. Hopefully I don't become road pizza! Glad you found something to do OG. Have fun and be safe! I will be thinking of you and SunsetRed tomorrow.
