musemaj11 Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 I know this guy who has so many friends guys and girls that it seems like he knows everyone in the whole city. However, for as long as I know him, he has always been single and lately he seems depressed and keeps saying dramatic things about his love life which suggests that he is probably lonely. I mean if you have that many friends, it means you must have great social skills and it should be a piece of cake to find someone, right?

It's possible that something about the way he goes about getting friends is unhealthy, or maybe he simply can't apply the same skills when he is looking for something more than friendship. In my experience, these people tend to simply be good at making other people laugh and have a good time by adapting to those people, but are never seen beyond this. Not everything comes down to social skills... Or, he's ugly or fat. Or it's another factor that we don't know anything about. Edited December 28, 2010 by Yer_Blues

Or that he's just good at 'superficial acquaintances' (as evidenced by the 'million' friends...) but not good at forging any deeper connection. Or... seriously, there could be a ton of reasons.

I know people who have befriended more than 1000 people on all types of social networks and spam them constantly with products/events ... I usually remove such people as soon as I see a pattern. As was mentioned before, social skills is key.
