I just read a piece written on a new online "dating" site called AdoptAGuy.com. It's the U.S. version of a popular site based in France called AdoptUnMec.com.

On this site, which is free, women shop for men. Once a woman signs up, she's given 30 men from her region and can browse profiles, or do specific searches. Some examples of search terms are "Rich and Dying" and "Man in Uniform". Only when a woman places a man in her cart can the two begin communicating. If he isn't interested, he can remove himself from her cart. If a man sees any women who pique his interest but have yet to notice him, he can send her a charm, but he's only given 10 per day.

This site is super-creepy. I can't imagine dating anyone who would consider themselves a product to be put in a cart. I can't help but think the women who join that site are narcissistic control-freaks and the men are outrageously desperate and passive to a fault. And obviously if it were the other way around, there would've been a tremendous uproar. Dating is riddled with enough games already; now there has to be a site like this?

I really don't see the difference in terms of other online dating experiences. They pretty much just cut out all the bull$***.

I heard about a site familiar to this . Where only the women are allowed to contact the men. What a messed up concept . lol kidding.

Anyway ,all dating sucks.

Lol I'm going to have to read this later with more time lol

We all have to market ourselves, girls and boys alike. It's just that our "carts" are usually invisible. No big whoop. Someone can put me in with their produce and Count Chocula.

I don't see how putting someone in a "cart" is that much different from sites that let you "favorite" others. Seems to me like they both serve the same function.

It reminds me of the mail order bride concept. If people are whacked enough to consent to being treated this way, I say it's their business.

Since you can't actually 'buy' them, I guess it's not as creepy as it sounds. . . but I don't know why they needed to name the functions things that are so creepy. They could have the same functions and call them different things, and it'd sound okay. I guess they're trying to be edgy.

Warning: If you put me in your cart, please be careful not to crush my baguette.

Just another dating game ... i guess ...Nothing beats walking up to a girl/guy and asking her out in person ... the online thing is NOT real life

Lol I heard about that site before it came out, but never went to it when it was up and running since I was taken by then. :)

I find the concept a bit weird, but honestly I think that site's pretty honest about how online dating works. Usually it is the guy that waits around for the girl to contact him as online dating is more favourable to women. So having women be the ones to pick out the guys is pretty much like every other dating website, except I guess they're more open about it.

I wonder if they have a "Clearance" section?

:lmao: Nice!

I know there's the idea that they're just being more "honest" about the nature of online dating, but it's still so degrading to me. It's equating finding love with finding the perfect pair of shoes. It quite literally makes love, not to mention PEOPLE--human beings with brains, a heart and feelings--a commodity and therefore easily disposable. Not that the dating world hasn't already come to that stage, but even so...yuck.

This is precisely the reason I have never done online dating. I have always equated it exactly to browsing racks for a pair of shoes. It seems so machine-like and inhuman to me. No offense to anyone who does it! Just, for me, it feels very wrong.

I've done online dating for awhile now, and while it does sometimes have a 'shopping' feel to it, this particular site seems extra-creepy to me. It's quite literally an online store. And the name...AdoptAGuy. Sounds like it would appeal to women looking for a pet instead of a life partner.

LOL I promise if I "cart you" I won't crush your grapes, either.

I have a try-me-on policy. Ladies, try me on for fit and comfort and if I don't work return me with no questions asked.

I have a Groupon for 3 hours of great sex at 60% off, and it's good for a year. The deal is ON!

"Men in uniform"? It sounds like a bordello. All the women in that website are probably just some sex freaks with all sorts of fetishes.

I think it's exceedingly stupid, and the male equivalent of 'mail-order brides'.

On initial approach, it's not my cup of tea but I think that this kind of 'advancement' is really no different from face-to-face communication > mail > telephone > mobile > email > texting > social networking.

There will always be people who are innovators and early adopters who will support these things and give it momentum before the rest of us are forced to join the masses because we have no choice if we want our needs met.
