crfsti Posted December 24, 2010 Posted December 24, 2010 I've been working with my hands since middle school(I'm 27 now) doing construction, plumbing, welding, etc. and over time they have developed kalas on them and have toughened up over the years. People notice right off when we shake hands, and sometimes comment on it. I haven't had a girl say anything yet, just wondering if I should've taken better care of them so they would be smoother now. Your thoughts? Is it at all a turn off for you?
USMCHokie Posted December 24, 2010 Posted December 24, 2010 I'd be curious to hear the answer too...even with all the moisturizing I do, my hands are rough and callused like you would not believe...and the dry winter air isn't helping much...
Confusedalways Posted December 24, 2010 Posted December 24, 2010 I actually like it... really makes them manly and masculine Honestly, if a woman is turned off just from THAT, it is a little ridiculous. It'd be different if your hands were like actually dirty or had crap under your nails. This kinda signals that you're a mans man, which I personally love. I wouldn't worry about it.
Author crfsti Posted December 24, 2010 Author Posted December 24, 2010 I wash my hands often and keep my nails short to keep dirt out from under there. Thanks for the replies!
Star Gazer Posted December 24, 2010 Posted December 24, 2010 I started getting some little callouses on the palms of my hands near the finger joints from CrossFit, and had to nip that in the bud right quick. I learned a few tricks from the dudes there who get callouses really bad. Lotion, lotion, lotion. Obviously. But the kicker is to literally take a course nail file to your callouses when dry to smooth them out; and a pumice on them in the shower. It'll help a LOT. I think for most women, it's not the palms that are a concern so much about as the fingers. Ya gotta work on those not feeling like sandpaper. But my skin is really delicate, so I'm a little anal about it.
tigressA Posted December 24, 2010 Posted December 24, 2010 I'm with Confusedalways. I love rough hands. They seem really manly and rugged, which is totally hot.
CandyHeart Posted December 24, 2010 Posted December 24, 2010 I actually like it... really makes them manly and masculine My words exactly
Cee Posted December 24, 2010 Posted December 24, 2010 Rough hands are sexy. I've dated a couple of guys who were in construction and carpentry. They had rough hands, which demonstrated how hard they worked. I miss having someone's rough hands on me. Sigh.
Stitch Posted December 24, 2010 Posted December 24, 2010 I love rough hands, as long as they are clean and the nails are well kept. They feel fantastic when being rubbed over my shoulders and other places Its such a pleasant contrast to my skin which is very soft.

But my skin is really delicate, so I'm a little anal about it. I was way off on my spelling for that word lol. But yea, my palms are the thickest, like it would take at less a 1/8'' to 3/16'' deep cut before my palm would bleed. My fingers tips aren't nearly as thick because the skin is always getting rubbed or sanded off from working. I'm with Confusedalways. I love rough hands. They seem really manly and rugged, which is totally hot. Awesome! My words exactly Awesome X2! Rough hands are sexy. I've dated a couple of guys who were in construction and carpentry. They had rough hands, which demonstrated how hard they worked. I miss having someone's rough hands on me. Sigh. Awesome X3! Want me to come over? I love rough hands, as long as they are clean and the nails are well kept. They feel fantastic when being rubbed over my shoulders and other places Its such a pleasant contrast to my skin which is very soft. Awesome X4! This thread made me feel much better about it, sounds like there's nothing to worry about
january2010 Posted December 24, 2010 Posted December 24, 2010 Your thoughts? Is it at all a turn off for you? Nope. Agree with Stitch, as long as they are clean and the nails are well kept then it's not really an issue. This topic reminds me of a moment in George Eliot's Adam Bede, when "he could not help drawing his own hands out of his pocket and looking at them--at the hard palms and the broken finger-nails. "I'm a roughish fellow, altogether." He's comparing himself to another suitor who is more "gentlemanly" where he hopes that what's in his heart is enough to win her love. In my opinion, there is an honesty, humility and earthiness that can be very attractive about a man's hands that aren't perfectly smooth.
zengirl Posted December 24, 2010 Posted December 24, 2010 I'd never thought about it, but I think it'd be a mild turnoff for me if they were THAT rough. But that's probably just because I'm not used to it. My boyfriend definitely doesn't moisturize all the time or have girly hands (nowhere near as soft as mine!), and too soft would bother me, too. But even as a mild turnoff, it'd never be a dealbreaker or anything and nothing you should worry about.
carhill Posted December 24, 2010 Posted December 24, 2010 OP, no woman has commented on my hands being rough and I use hand and skin care products daily. I own a machine shop and have worked in the trades since I was an adolescent, about 40 years. I also do construction (carpentry/masonry, etc). IMO, it's just a matter of protecting one's skin. Since I'm about twice your age, I can tell you that decisions you make now have a marked impact on your life when you're older, including skin care. It's great that the ladies generally don't mind (rough hands); I don't do it for them, rather for myself. Since I make my living with my hands, I like protecting the investment. Good luck
AZGarnethawk Posted December 24, 2010 Posted December 24, 2010 I have dated many different kind of men in my life, but I always seem drawn back to the construction/hard working guys. Men who have soft as a baby's butt hands it kinda a turn off. Maybe its a mentality thing, but its like they never knew a hard days work. LOL and certainly not the guy to call to have them fix the sink or work on the car. So I find rough hands a turn on and love them lots.
Madgick1 Posted December 24, 2010 Posted December 24, 2010 Actually, a rough hand and a soft touch would be an immense turn on.
hopesndreams Posted December 24, 2010 Posted December 24, 2010 Is it at all a turn off for you? Not a turn off at all! Real men have callouses.
Maggotface Posted December 24, 2010 Posted December 24, 2010 I'd take rough manly hands over soft smooth hands anyday.
SmileFace Posted December 24, 2010 Posted December 24, 2010 Rough hands are the best. My ex use to go rowing as sport. And had nice rough hands:love::love:
NoLongerSad Posted December 24, 2010 Posted December 24, 2010 I don't know about the rest of the ladies, but Madge says to use "Palmolive." "You're soaking in it!"
