Hey guys,

So this is my Dilemma. Being the single guy in a group of friends, I always get presents from "a family". I am usually good friends with both the husband and wife, and usually I have my own individual dynamic with them. I'm usually a thoughtful gift giver, and I gift each individual a gift.

However, as I'm getting older, I gotta start budgeting my money wisely, so buying individual gifts is a little straining. Seeing as they do an from: "xxx family", to: me, is it fair to just buy some for that family?

Also, I need gift ideas. What would you give a family that has a 1-year old? What would you give a family that has a daughter in college? Don't know if the kids ages make a difference, but I really don't know what to get them.

Thanks, and Happy Holidays!

My opinion....

I have no problem with a present being given to my H and I as a "couple"

As for those with children....

I have a ridiculous number of nephews and nieces and Christmas used to be an absolute nightmare. We bought for all the kids but only until they turned 18 (and in the teenage years it got a lot easier because they just wanted CDs or DVDs instead of Tracey Island or whatever the latest craze was )

The parents were perfectly happy with us buying for the kids and not for them. The parents would then buy a present for the kids to give to us. We also asked what the kids wanted - parents often liked that because we could get something which tied in with something they were already getting.

Just buy a bottle of wine for each couple.... You don't need to buy presents from the children of your friends, despite how close they are to you (perhaps only if you're the godfather).
