Why do people get offended when you don't want to tell them your life story?

When people are like, "I tell you everything about me, but you won't tell me anything about you," and they're upset by that. I don't get it. I could understand if it was like you telling them everything about yourself (even if they don't want to hear it), but you can't be bothered to listen to anything about them. That's something that I can see would be offensive, but if they don't want to tell you every detail of their lives? What's the problem there? It's simple--you can tell me your whole life story (within reason. I don't want to hear anything like, "So this was the FIRST STD I got!"), and I'll listen to it, but I'm not going to do the same thing to you. And a lot of people wouldn't do that either. It's not something to get offended by--it's just the way they are.
