Dieam Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 Hey guys, first post here, and just looking for some insight. I am 18 years old, and I am on a swimming team in High School. Theres this girl on the team who's extremely cute in my opinion, and everytime I happen to stare at her, she stares back. Sometimes, we'll end up staring at each other for seconds at a time, and we both let off a light smile. This has never happened to me before. I never believed in the old cliche "staring at each other" thing till now, hence why I need the help. Now on to the questions: 1. Is this whole staring thing a good sign? is she interested? or does she stare back because she thinks Im a complete weirdo? 2. She also has a brother on the team, whom I am very cool with. Should I approach him about this? like should i ask him for her number, or for his help? or should I just approach her directly? 3. When I approach her, how do I go about doing it? my goal would be to get her number, and start texting her. How should I go about doing this? Thanks in advance guys.
january2010 Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 Lingering eye contact is generally a good sign, especially when accompanied by a smile. I suggest not involving the brother. I do suggest finding an opportunity to chat to her just to find out a bit more about whether you guys get along. If the chat goes well, finish the conversation with something like, "hey, would you like to grab something to eat after swimming class?" or something along those lines. If she says yes, suggest exchanging numbers. Good luck

Then ask her for her number so that you can confirm arrangements. You don't need her number to ask her out when you can do it face-to-face when you next see her.

You're asking her out face-to-face which is much better than any other way. You could just say something like "Would you like to see a movie with me?" and get her number later in the conversation. Say it however is more comfortable for you. She might ask what's on... so make sure you have an idea of at least one of the movies that's playing right now.

I see where you guys are coming from, and maybe its just a regional thing, but where I live, guys and girls "talk" to each other via texting and/or talking on the phone before becoming an official couple. Sure they go out on dates and stuff, but meanwhile they talk to get to know each other better outside of dates. I dont know if where you guys live the term "talking" is used but where im from, almost every couple had a period when they were "talking". so thats why im curious about how to ask for the number

DuskCrush Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 Hi---seems like she definitely likes you. Just go up to her and ask her about her day and stuff...start off small since you're nervous. Do it a two times. That way you can feel out her interest and build up your nerve. The third time you should definitely ask for her number. Things should go smoothly from there. btw--do not involve her brother...it might backfire.

All the websites and opinions in the world wont help you get over your nervousness to ask her out. You just have to man up and do it. If you dont have confidence, she will see it and will turn a cold shoulder to you. If the brawny jock knows that he can get her number no problem, he wouldnt be asking people on a website, or her brother. he would just walk up to her, make her laugh, chat for a minute, then offer to show her a good time somewhere specific. THEN he asks for the number, if she doesnt offer it up by then. Just act like you have his confidence. And in the meantime, stop staring at her, if you keep staring at her without talking to her, she will think youre a wimp. And if you get her number, dont be a wimp and text her, call her and show her your confidence.
