Hi all,

I was supposed to have a first date with what seems like a charming man this evening. I was battling the flu earlier this week and he said Thursday that he felt his cold coming back. Thursday he asked me out for tonight but yesterday he texted to say his cold was horrible and asked if we could reschedule. Of course, I said yes and to get feeling better. Do I assume he really is sick?

When you rely on text messaging then you have no choice but to believe him.

Why not pick up the phone and talk with him ?

Yep. Don't contact him. He'll reschedule if he wants that date.

Thanks, soul, that's the plan. Assume the best intentions. :)

Why assume the worst? That he isn't sick? He asked you out, yes? So why would he all of a sudden change his mind and make up that his cold got worse and could reschedule the date?

Time will tell. In afew days text him and just say I hope you're feeling better!

I hate to admit it, but I've used the sick excuse to get out of a date myself... so I really hope you wait to hear back from him. I would not contact him... respond to him.

Best not to overcomplicate things. Assume that he is legitimately sick. Depending on what region you're from, it's cold season. If you're from the northeast, the cold this year SUCKS. I had the cold seven weeks ago. My boyfriend got sick before he went to Japan. My coworkers all got sick. My best friend and her husband got sick. My sister got sick and another friend of mine got sick. All of this happened in the span of two weeks. Now, five weeks later, we're all still suffering from a nasty chest cough that is very, very unpleasant.

If he doesn't call you, perhaps try to reach out to him by phone in five days or so to reschedule.

Just find something to do to distract yourself from wondering if he will call you....Don't contact him again. Let him contact you.

He was the one who canceled the date so it's up to him now to call.
