How would your partner react if they found out about this public forum?

In order to get advice or comments on a certain situation, a lot of people post a lot of details about their relationship, some about serious issues such as infidelity or unhappiness in a marriage.

 

How do you think your partner would react if they found out that the person/situation they are reading about in a public forum such as this one is actually THEM or about THEM? In other words, they would find out that you, their partner, is telling all your personal/private problems for the whole world to see and comment on?

 

If somehow they were able to check your post, would you think twice about posting?

If your SO could know what you put here, sure you might not share as much. But part of the internet is anonymity.

 

I believe that everyone needs a close confidant to talk to other than their SO. Every relationship has problems and when you don't have someone to talk to it makes it very hard to get your thoughts in order. Our whole nation's mental health is going down the crapper, and I think a major reason is because adults don't have as many close friends as they used to. This forum is a way for people to get things off of their chest.

 

Also, its a misconception to say this is the whole world. This isn't even one of the top 20 forums on the internet, and even internet forums have a tiny fraction of the viewership of a major TV station. So you really aren't sharing with the "whole world".

I'm in an LDR and joined this site to connect with people in similar situations. I don't know anyone in my day to day life that's facing the challenges I am and it's comforting seeing how other people do it and knowing that I'm not alone in my pursuits.

 

My SO doesn’t post here nor is he interactive with any part of this forum at all. Due to our personality differences, I could never see him joining a forum for any type of support. He just gets through it whereas I find strength in interacting with other people.

Not sure, but I don't really post anything here that I keep as a big secret from my SO, so there probably wouldn't be any big surprises. Whenever I post online nowadays, I assume everyone might one day read it. So sadly none of you will ever hear all about my gopher fetish, or where I buried Jimmy Hoffa.
