Lately, the only time I have had doubt/regret when facing the inevitability of 11 more months apart is when it is extremely cold outside.

Weather.com says that it feels like 1 degree outside (Fahrenheit, not Celsius). I'm stuck inside and working from home and he's asleep 6700 miles/14 hour time difference away instead of being warm and safe in my bed.

Any tips from anyone on how to deal with cold weather blues?

I couldn't feel 'ya more on this one Creighton. I HATE the cold weather and find that it affects my mood towards alot of things. I can never get warm and don't feel like doing anything. All my energy is zapped out of me and fixed on not being cold. In case you couldn't tell, I'm extremely sensitive to this time of year. :lmao:

I think the winter is generally a down time for most people, especially those living in colder climates like we do. You tend to go out less and stay in more, which always sucks.

It's only slightly warmer where my SO is right now so we are doing an equal amount of weather-bitching at the moment. We'll usually make a cup of tea and talk in bed together. It's not much, but that's really all we can do right now. I'm not moving out of the hot tub when he gets here.

Yeah I hate the cold weather too and it's been unusually cold where I live for this time of year. It's really odd although my boyfriend has it way worse than me. He just drove through a blizzard yesterday so he keeps telling me to stop complaining and embrace the cold so my body will adjust to a colder climate, lol. All I can tell you is to try and make yourself busy at home. For me that means drinking lots of hot tea and hot chocolate and playing the Sims to keep my mind preoccupied. But when I do get really down I talk to my boyfriend, who like I said makes fun of me because to him the cold weather I'm seeing where I live is nothing.

Aww. :( What exactly is your bf doing so far away, again?

We met shortly after he accepted a one-year teaching position in Japan. It's one of the many ESL programs. His only regret was that he accepted the job and made plans to go before he met me.

It's cold where he is too. I feel bad because he doesn't know his electricity costs yet so doesn't know how much he can afford to heat his apartment. Here I am complaining that it's cold outside when I have heat included in my rent... and I can see his breath in the air at night when we video chat after he gets home from work.

Still, I get to see him in six days for two weeks. Very much looking forward to that.

Yeah. When I get home from work, he's waking up. His hours and the time difference work out perfectly. We open a video chat and leave it open for a few hours. I cook dinner and eat, play video games, watch movies. He cooks breakfast, takes a shower, gets dressed to impress.

Occasionally we'll both do something a little more... naughty... :-)

He's more quiet and less prone to talking, but that's what makes him so very unique and beautiful. Those moments where there is no doubt that we'll have a video chat open for three hours, even when he's not by the camera, makes it feel like he's in the next room and makes the distance disappear.

It makes me sad for different reasons. It snowed in London a couple of weeks back (more to come on weekend too) and my SO loves snow...coming from Colombia she hasnt experienced it that much. And coming from Bogota she doesnt like hot weather as Bogota is not hot at all being 9000 feet up so she really likes the weather in London (!). She is olive skinned but I never known anyone dislike sunny days so much...and I am blonde scandinavian so we are sad we couldnt be in the snow together

To make things weirder, she is currently in Cost Rica which is really sunny. We send pictures and she is in a bikini and I have 3 jumpers, coat, gloves hood etc.

Sigh. LDRs are hard.

cold weather does seem to make things seem a lot worse. Today was very cold & I just wanted to stay in bed and think about my bf, but I had to wake up and face the cold outside and sit through a 3hour calculus class in Mandarin. :(

For me it's even harder right now...i'm wondering how can you miss someone so much more who wasn't even 'here' from the beginning. I've been in a LDR with my bf for 4months and we won't officially meet until summer. However we are from the same country, just studying in different parts of the world. I am in Asia and he's in the Caribbean...I did have a class with him back in 2007 but we never spoke then.

Anyways he went home (in Central America) for Christmas break & I'm still stuck here. I never thought i would miss him this much, guess i got used to him being away too and now that he is home there is a 12 hour difference as oppose to a 14 hour difference and he doesn't have as much access to the internet and it's so hard- especially since it's getting cold here!

I don't think no amount of hot chocolate can help, I not only miss my bf but also my family & the whole idea of Christmas! I still have classes, which just seems to make things worse...

Awww, I wish my boyfriend had a webcam for his desktop. I've only seen him on cam like 3 times total, and that was only because he borrowed his mom's laptop which had a built in camera in it. It does make the person you love seem closer and is nice.

I hope you enjoy your trip though to Japan, I've always wanted to go there one day. :)

So he will be home for XMas? Good for you! People in Japan have a thing for Kentucky Fried Chicken during Christmas.

You guys should get some KFC to commemorate his homecoming.

Girl, I kid you not, I had 3 webcams for my desktop at one point. One is attached to my computer right now, one I gave to the boyfriend, and another is sitting and gather dust. If you're interested in it you can PM me.

Hehe. Yeah. KFC is not going to happen :-P We did agree on some awesome Italian Pizza in Boston's Little Italy, though.

I have a webcam on my desktop and one in my bedroom. The bedroom one is programmed to only accept incoming calls automatically from him and turns on some LED's so he can call me if I'm sleeping. Will do, but not tonight. Going to bed :-D

Lol, wow 3?!?! I only have one in my room and that's because it came built into my laptop when I bought it. It kinda sucks because my boyfriend always gets to see me on cam and I never get to see him. He makes up for it with lots of pictures though, although I'll admit I would much rather see him on cam, especially right before we both fall asleep while talking on skype.

thanks to whoever invented webcam! probably the most wanted thing in LDR :p at least for me. ofc mails are nice, but its just so different to actually see your love  you can almost feel him there next to you...

i'm in a really bad mood couz i somehow managed to broke my mic -which means its only see, not talk today. thinking about recording some things like love you and see you soon on my phone and just mailing him the file :D

and running to the store to buy a new one tomorrow!

and about the weather, just came back from my holidays at his, and almost freezed on the airport. its all snowy here and soo cooold! i'm kinda jealous he's the one living in the warmer part of the planet :p

I live in sub tropical area so is only adjustable to warm weather. Since my So live in cold place, so it is usually he would travel to visit me. He knows I will die even thinking of the snowing days!!:love: After his visit to me, he enjoys more of warm and sunny places where he can take sunbath often.

Everlast,

Once you get a working webcam again, I've found making and posting private youTube videos to be great. That way, he doesn't have to wait to download the file. You just provide him with the URL.
