rose00 Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Hi Everyone, The total budget for my sister's wedding is 17k. 10k of it is paying for the venue which includes the ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner and wedding cake. How much should she spend on the dress? We have seen people spend $299 at boncyboutique and other spend several thousand at stores like kleinfeld (say yes to the dress) She's a penny pinchers so she was thinking something around $500. What do you think?

What do you think? This can easily be done. I spent $199.00 plus tax. I purchased it from a well known bridal store but I got it online. I went to the store to and tried on dresses to be sure of my size first though! Online was much less expensive in my case.
sally4sara Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 I would never spend more than $300 on a formal dress I'm only going to wear once. Check out Etsy.com Looking over some dresses in the $100 to $300 range, I saw quite a few gorgeous ones. MaggiesbridalShop has some lovely ones like this: http://www.etsy.com/listing/64282076/gorgeous-strapless-full-length-taffeta?ref=v1_other_1
NoLongerSad Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Your sister should spend precisely $342.98 on the wedding dress, plus or minus 10%. If she exceeds these parameters in either direction, she will be subject to the contractual penalty clause.
Lauriebell82 Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 My dress was expensive, but I had assistance in paying for it. I dont' know where you live, but certain stores like David's bridal have dresses that are on the less expensive side, like $500 or under. Also, "buying off the rack" in another bridal store could be a good option, she could get a designer dress for a fairly cheap price. However, she would have to take whatever size the dress is and spend money on alterations if she were to go that route. Generally, "off the rack" dress sizes are larger.

I knew I would be wearing jeans but I wanted a bride-y tunic to wear with it, and I searched on Etsy until I found a few that I liked by a designer who lived in my area. I contacted the designer directly, visited them for a fitting, and had her make me something custom. She was talented but just starting out and I got a gorgeously 'casual' bridal tunic dress custom designed for me for about 250. I also had a gorgeous shawl handmade for me for about 50.
