communication problems

My SO and I have been together for 8 months. At the beginning, as usual everything was wonderful...talking a lot when we aren't together as far as texting and phone calls go....spending lots of quality time together when we could due to our crazy schedules, etc.

 

My problem now is that we have had to back things off a bit due to our kids and a few bumps in the road that we ran into. One of our recurring problems is with our daily communication. We see each other on average 3 times a week. We work opposite shifts so phone calls can be challenging during the week. I feel so disconnected from him when we aren't together because he has confessed that he really doesn't like texting. Our daily communication Monday - Friday (on days we don't see each other) has turned into once in the morning and once in the evening....and it's usually just a couple of texts, not phone calls. This upsets me because I feel like if he doesn't want to talk to me that he doesn't miss me. Now when we are together, things are wonderful. I can tell he loves me and he is affectionate...he's just not a "phone" person I guess.

 

Does this tend to be a guy thing? I just miss him a lot when we have to go 3-4 days without seeing each other due to our schedules and with the lack of communication it makes it harder. We have talked about this before...and he just chalks it up to how challenging our schedules are. I work 8 - 430 and he works 3pm - midnight...so neither can really talk on the phone while we are at work. How would others handle this? Is he not putting in enough effort, or am I being unreasonable?!

You see each other 3 times a week and touch base twice a day and when you are together you are happy.

 

It would be enough for me.

 

But eventually you are going to have to figure out your schedule.
