just_some_guy Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 Given my situation with the STBX suicide attempt, her family who have been nasty to me, my siblings who are hitting me up for money and so on, I need to find an alternate reality for Christmas. Someone asked me today what I was planning for the holidays. My only response was, "I don't know, but as long as it does not involve anyone I'm related to, I should be fine."
worlybear Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 How about volunteering for being Santa for a charity for needy people? Or helping out in some way?
drewsmom Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 Find a local casino. There always fun. have a drink, eat at the buffet. there are always people alone there,
Author just_some_guy Posted December 14, 2010 Author Posted December 14, 2010 How about volunteering for being Santa for a charity for needy people? Or helping out in some way? Honestly, I've helped enough people already. I just don't have it in me and would probably get angry and tell someone to go eff themselves.
FreeNow Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 One could always go play Santa to a couple of naughty but nice Christmas working gals.
controlledchaos Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 i'm in the same boat. i have an invite from friends. but, i'm leaning towards a nice hotel with spa services. i have no family to spend it with and my kids will be with their dad, so it's just me. good luck making a choice!
What_Next Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 Take a vacation if possible. Get out of town! Ironically my wife and I are in the VERY early stages of a reconciliation and we feel the same way in terms of wanting our family away from us. Last year we went winter camping as a family and it's too bad we are unable to do that this year. Try something new, unconventional, the world is an amazing place. Good luck and happy holidays despite the situation.
Feelin Frisky Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 When I go to the family Christmas party it doesn't occur to me to take inventory of who is not there. By there general indifference to me, I'm sure no one would miss me if I didn't show. I have bailed before when I just didn't feel like I wanted to face that music (or that I'd probably get hammered and regret it if I did go).
denise_xo Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 My best Christmases ever have been when I could just boycott the whole thing completely and just treat it like another day off but with extra good food and good movies and books or something. I highly recommend it.
