Seren- you sure dont strike me as having a tattoo. :p

Speaking of tat's and quotes. I actually have this tat, not the verse b but just the ref-

1.Cor 10 13:

"No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it".

Oh Mimi I have more than one, I am so not what people expect. One of my favourite quotes is also:

I am so dark I fart bats .... which is more in line with me. I often form opinions on posts and it would be interesting, sometimes, to see if I am right about how a person is from their posting style.

I love some of the sayings used in AA/Al-Anon:

the definition of insanity (which has already been posted)

"Don't live in the train-wreck of the past, or the future."

"If you keep doing what you've always done, you'll keep getting what you've always gotten."

"You didn't cause it, you can't change it."

"Just for today"

And one I use daily,

"I turn that over to G-d."

I'm not sure where it came from, but I heard it many years ago. It's something I try to remember, especially at times like this -

"There are two questions you must as yourself. The first is 'Where am I going?' The second is, 'Who will go with me?' If you ever get these questions in the wrong order, you are in trouble."

Ooooh, Calli - boy, that one really resonates with me today after what's gone on the past week...thanks for posting!

Here's a couple that I KNOW won't be very popular in this forum but they are 100% truthful.

1) "If they'll cheat with you... they'll cheat on you."

2) "People with nothing to hide... hide nothing."

while my fav quote isn't about relationships its about friendship...

Friendship is like peeing on yourself: everyone can see it, but only you get the warm feeling that it brings.

1 Corinthians ch 13 v 4-7. I have it tattooed on my arm also.

"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Excellent thread KTD, and this is my favorite above:D...others include, but are not limited to:

"The kindest word in all of the the world, is an unkind word unsaid." Quotable Quotes, Reader Digest

"To err is human, to forgive divine." Quotable Quotes, Readers Digest

I gotta recommend my own signature to those that need it.

So many people WANT something to change, but then stand there and wring their hands and proclaim that they can do nothing about the situation that they're in.

In truth, it's very rare when things are totally out of you control.

That's why my advice is usually "action oriented".

DO something. Don't try, then cry when you fail. Decide what you want, figure out how to get it, and make it happen.

Yoda was a smart little muppet when it all comes down to it.

Owl, I'm not a Star Wars fan (Actually find it a means of persecution ;) ) but I LOVE your signature and always have (since coming here), so much so that I quote it at work to the students I teach.

So, thank you! :)

My favourite quote, which I think I'll now put on my signature...

Just read through these again... they're all fantastic :)

Or maybe not! Sheesh I'm useless with technology!

Einstein is responsible for: "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result."

I like the Serenity Prayer and believe I know quite a few people who would benefit from having it permanently tattooed on their foreheads:

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change;

Courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference. (Amen!)

Also Mahatma Ghandi said: "Be the change you wish to see in the world."

I like my "borrowed" version too: Be the change you wish to see in the relationship. --Spark;)

I know, I wonder the same. There was a thread in another forum here on LS that you were able to record an audio clip. It was fun hearing everyone's real voices and there was one with pictures a while back.

Actually, I'm not much of a Star Wars fan either...but I like the simplicity and truth of that particular phrase. There was a similar one made by Sean Connery in "The Rock"...but perhaps not quite as PG rated as the Yoda version. (do a search for quotes from that movie and you should find it quickly enough)

I just Googled it - there's so many! It certainly makes me want to watch that movie - what a badass! :)

I found something sweet that I said once to my xMW :

- I don't love you because I need you, I need you because I love you.

Others :

- (I love Jthorne's sig) People show us who they are, but we ignore it, we want them to be what we want them to be.

- The only people you need in your life are the ones who want you to be in theirs. Never try to keep someone who doesn't want to keep you.

- Never make a priority someone who makes you an option (this is what all OM/OW should keep in mind)

- No one deserves your tears because the One who will deserve them, will never make you cry.

- I don't miss you, I miss the person you used to be.

- "Amoris vulnus idem sanat, qui facit. Translation: The wounds of love can only be healed by the one who made them". Syrus Publilius

- When you look at things differently, the things you look at change.

- Some people are settling down, some people are settling, and some people refuse to settle for anything less than butterflies. Carrie on "Sex and the City"

- Shot through the heart and you're to blame, you give love a bad name. I played my part and you played your games. You give love a bad name." Bon Jovi

- Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new. - Albert Einstein

I am always seem so late to some threads... but I do love great quotes and I was feeling down and reading these made my heart feel lighter and I felt the need to add a few of my favorites as well:

Bore, n.: A person who talks when you wish him to listen.

- Ambrose Bierce

I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.

- Thomas A. Edison

The only thing worse than a man you can’t control is a man you can.

Margo Kaufman

If you’re big enough to do it then be big enough to own it!!

-my mother-

Everything has an expiration date……….

-Someone Special-

And then there are "my words" whether they are worth repeating or even called quote-worthy they fell out of my mouth at one time or another………

I love --- LOVE and HEARTBREAK the same…. You have to know both to know one.

Love the one your with ---the most ---Your Self

I am “perfect” ……. at being ME and I have not found anyone who does it better!

Kindness is a CHOICE not a requirement

Always tell the truth because a LIE hurts twice

I am glad one decision does not define us as a whole... no one on earth walks an infallible line, at some point in our lives we all fall on the wrong side of what someone thinks is right.

And of course my signature gives me hope!

Thanks for starting this thread I enjoyed it!!!:):):)

My all time favorite;

Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to slide in sideways, totally worn out, shouting "Holy ****, what a ride!"

HA! Love that one!!

My signature line is more about my own personal preference rather than some profound universal truth... but in any case I'm glad I'm in the same boat with Einstein. :D

Before that, my siggy was a quote from Nancy Pelosi (about women in the workplace): "There are still too many days where I'm the only woman in the room."

Very wise, Owl! Love Yoda too and live by the "don't try, do" motto but when it comes down to it, Yoda was still a fictitious character with a guys hand up his a$$. Couldn't resist. Sorry.

Love reading all the quotes, great way to start my day. Unfortunately I can never remember them to quote them back.

Inaccurate.

Yoda may have been a puppet, but his words are based on the looks, teachings and temperament of a real-life Buddhist lama. In fact, much of the dialogue in Star wars from Jedi members, revolves around Buddhist philosophy.

So there.

Sorry TM. Did not mean to offend. Just kidding with Owl. So noted.

I love these all!! My favorite so far is "Bitterness is like cancer. It eats upon the host. But anger is like fire. It burns it all clean." -Maya Angelou

A few of my favorites:

"Leave it to me as I find a way to be/ Consider me a satellite, forever orbiting/

I know all the rules, but the rules do not know me/ Guaranteed"

-Eddie Vedder (though the whole song "Guaranteed" is infinitely quotable)

"And in the End/ The love you take/ Is equal to/ The love you make"

-Lennon/McCartney

"What keeps you going isn't some fine destination but just the road you're on, and the fact that you know how to drive."

-Barbara Kingsolver

And on second thought, I had to add another verse from that song:

"Circles they grow and they swallow people whole

Half their lives they say goodnight to wives they'll never know

A mind full of questions, and a teacher in my soul

And so it goes..."

-Eddie Vedder
