irc333 Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 There was this person I met at a friends party, a woman actually, we chatted some, but I was mostly mingling. Later on, one of my friends made a funny post (the host of the party) on her wall, and the woman I talked to at the party, made a funny comment back. The thumbnail was small, so I clicked on her profile and got a good look at her, and recognized her from the party. Turns out, she's friends with a few other of MY friends....I want to send her a message to say, "Hey, I remember you from the party, it was nice meeting you." She had the "Send message" turned off. I think 'Hm, well, no choice but to friends request her, and put a message in THAT friends request box to identify who I am. Guess what, NO message box in the friends request (what's up with that??) So you're left just witha COLD turkey friends request without warning So I was pigeon holed into just doing that....a cold friends request, and just hopes she recognizes me from my picture. But why even turn off options to receive emails/messages (esp in the friends request?)
Cee Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 I don't think she has a choice. No messages mean that all messaging options are off. I understand the reasons why she has messaging off. It's a total pain. Mostly I get spammed with event announcements instead of messages from real people. I have my email account and phone number displayed in my Info tab so people are free to email or call. Don't worry too much about no message. This woman will look at your profile, see that you have mutual friends, and decide whether she wants to friend you. And if she doesn't friend you, don't worry. You will likely meet up another time and then you'll get another chance to talk.
Author irc333 Posted December 10, 2010 Author Posted December 10, 2010 Really? I never have spam issues through FB. I get event announcements, which I figured be something people would want, like a get get together at someone's house party, BBQ or pool party. These event announcements ARE from my friends on FB. SmileFace Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 I think when you take off messages it means all messages but I really don't know since I don't use facebook for anything more than to store pictures. I just wanted to comment on all the threads named "facebook etiquette". lol check bottom
Star Gazer Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 The answer is pretty obvious to me. She doesn't want to be contacted via FB.
