Lakeside_runner Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 This is a very quick question... I am currently in a very fresh relationship. Everything is going really well - she is the BEST!!! Now, holidays are approaching very fast. We haven't talked about it yet but I want to get her a gift. She loves the outdoors and REI is her favorite shopping place. Since she mentioned a couple of times that she can go to REI and spend there hours I thought I will get her an REI gift card and put it in a puzzle box (has to be solved to claim the prize). This way she'll be able to get there what she needs. I'm just not sure on the value. I'm thinking $40-$50. Again, this is a very fresh relationship etc. Opinions? Thanks!
tigressA Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 The amount you proposed doesn't sound like too much, IMO. I'm sure she would really appreciate it, and the puzzle box sounds like a cute idea!
quankanne Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 we give $30-40 gift cards for birthdays/holidays/milestone events to the kids in our family/circle of friends, so I think your range is fairly generous. However, since I'm not familiar with the particular store you're talking about, you'll have a better idea of how much bang she'll get for her buck with your gift card. and no matter what people may say, sometimes, the absolute best gift is a gift card because it allows the recipient to use on something he/she really, really wants at a particular point in time. Only YOU know what that person really prefers ... and people appreciate being given an option of purchasing what they want from a store they like when they like! congratulations on the relationship!
Cee Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 The amount sounds good. There's no point in giving a lower amount, which she couldn't use. REI is a bit pricey. I also love the puzzle box idea. I think your gift is pure win all around.

laRubiaBonita Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 Hahaha, I like it. I'll make it 51.23 Thanks everybody! one caveat though- i did this for my little sis last year and she accused me of giving her MY store credit, like i returned something and then just lamed out and gave her the gift card. my lil sis never did appreciate my jokes though

To your sister I would have said "that is very rude, If I had change on a store credit and wanted to hide it from you I could have asked for the refund in 2 seperate cards... one with the gift amount and the othr with the change" plus didn't you have a gift card holder .... those look nice.
