Definition of the length of time one's been single

I'm not sure what to say when guys ask how long I've been single. In the last 1.5 years, I had one relationship that lasted 4 months. That ended 1 year ago. So have I been single for 1.5 years or 1 year.. do you count the short 3-4 month relationships or leave them out when people ask?
