Hi all,

I was rummaging through the medicine cabinet in the apartment that my longtime live-in girlfriend and I share. I found a prescription bottle containing valtrex(used to treat herpes) in my girlfriend's name.

We've been dating for a year and a half and have been living together for nearly a year. Should I ask her about this or just leave it be? Obviously if she does have herpes I've got it by now and nothing can be done. (been sleeping together since our first date)

I know it's a sensitive subject to bring up and I'm not sure it's even worth causing her the embarrassment and guilt.

It bugs me that we've been dating for as long as we have and she hasn't said anything, especially since this isn't really any small matter.

Any input is appreciated. Her and I have been through a lot and I've got no intention of leaving her over this, but it is hurtful and does damage the trust that I have for her.

I have had to take Valtrex for shingles and big cold sores.

If she has herpes the classy thing to do would have been to inform you from the beginning. You might not have herpes if she only has sex with you when it is inactive.

You have to ask her. I don't know how she could have hidden it from you for this long, seeing as she is in the relationship for the long haul.

I have Hep C and have told every potential sexual partner, even though it is not a legal obligation to do so. If I didn't say anything, they would find out sooner or later and the fallout would make me more unwell than I already feel.

75-85% of EVERYBODY has oral herpes.

One common combatant of which is Valtrex.

To assume anything beyond that about your particular girlfriend at this point, is stupid.

One could say just about as much for assuming a (once-)new partner didn't have oral herpes from the start of your relationship.

she doesn't necesarily have herpes but you might as well bring up the medication you saw and ask her about it. If she does have herpes it doesn't mean you have it.

Natural solutions focus on the concept which the immune system adopts. The immune system over time essentially makes the metabolism less attractive or even hostile to the virus as it is becoming active. This tends to encourage the virus to remain in dormant state more.
