Fk it, I'm giving in.. I like to go to happy hour / a bar, etc on a first date, that way we have a drink, relax.. but I am going to do the coffee shop / startbuck's routing on my forthcoming first dates; too many of them and I just can't afford $30-$40 multiple first dates through the end of this year :(

Ladies, would that be ok with you? Specifically ladies in the 30-40 bracket..

Thanks

I would prefer an independent cafe for coffee rather than a starbucks..... starbucks is kind of like mcdonalds.

A cafe for coffee for a first date would be totally fine though.... as long as you didn't mind if I ate cake ;)

I prefer starbucks to the other coffee chains. So yeah it would be cool. However if a guy inviting to a Gloria Jeans, I just couldn't do it.;)

take a mint. coffee breath isnt as forgiving as vodka breath. if you're in a bar, your breath is expected to smell like what you're drinking. coffee breath can wreak though......

Who said you have to spend $30-$40 on a first date? Coffee and a stroll through the park or around the city shouldn't cost you that much.

Relax. Genuine, non-gold-digger women will appreciate an inexpensive date -and you! :)

I am 35.

Coffee date sounds fine. Don't feel you have to spend too much on a first meeting.

If it were me I would probably pay for my own coffee and yours too!

While the attitude -- "I'm going out with too many women, and I don't want to spend much money" -- is a turnoff, I've no issue with "coffee meets" and prefer them for first meets. It's different if dating someone you've known socially previously, maybe. My boyfriend and I still go to a local independent coffee house to sit and read together.

Starbucks might bother me, if there were independent options in the city. But one of my big things is trying to eat at/shop at local businesses, rather than chains. I understand that every place has a different scene, though.

No, don't take it that way, it's not like I have them lineing up :( ... But..

Let's call them candidates...

  • candidate 1 - we've gone out three times, so the starbucks route is a no go..
  • candidate 2 - we talked on the phone this wknd, so I can do the starbucks..
  • candidate 3 and 4 - we've texted back and fourth yesterday and I have to call them today...

So, that's 4 x $12 for starbucks?? = $50ish, much better than 4 x $40 at happy hour = $160..

I am not a coffee person, so Starbuck's is all you hear about down here..

Starbucks is fine for a first date. Really you're trying to find out if they are a total psycho freak or not. If not, then you can try to impress her with the yuppie cafe route.

How are you getting a $40 happy hour tab? One drink and split! :p

Coffee sounds fine. I, like others, prefer local coffee chains. I actually hate coffee so I go for hot chocolate or tea.

I'm on the young end of your age bracket.

You apparently have had a very limited amount of coffee. Some of the fair trade places are amazing. They blow Starbucks out of the water (though much of Starbucks is fair trade too and it's by far the best chain coffee and consistent worldwide, as I've had it on 3 continents). Of course, that's not true in every city.

Eww, dude Starbucks coffee is gross. Might as well take her to Mcdonalds - they have any coffee 99 cents . lol I am just kidding.

Anyway this is what you do. You find three favorite places that sell coffee.

Anything like the 3 listed below-

Barnes and Noble

Independent Coffee Shop

Starbucks

Small Bakery

A Dive

Ok so you have three in mind.

Now think of each girl . Now think of the place that fits her best.

Business women - Starbucks

Artsy chick - Independent Cafe

Foodie - Small Bakery

Then keep rotating. You don't to run into nobody. Don't let her choose that is all you . Good luck :-)

Sorry if I was unclear, I meant a limited amount of varieties. Not coffee in general. I don't live in Seattle either. . . not sure what's overly hip, but I wouldn't live anywhere that wasn't metro and I stick close to "downtown" so maybe.
