Ariadne Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 I'm 43. Divorced (twice), unemployed, broke, lonely, single mom, overweight, addicted, look my age.
JamesM Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 I'm 43. Divorced (twice), unemployed, broke, lonely, single mom, overweight, addicted, look my age. And yet as one who has seen your pictures over the years, I must comment..... You do not look your age and IMO you look rather beautiful. Smile. Being over 40 is when life just begins. Or at least that is what us old fogies keep telling ourselves.

green_tea Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 BTW: Are there any 40+ people (or even 30+ people) who admit to looking their age? I find it kind of amusing that so many people posting here always add the disclaimer "but i don't look my age!" I assume this is directed at me? It wasn't a disclaimer that I look 30 - it was a comment, and I get it from every single person that I reveal my age to, so it's not just to make myself feel better. I do enjoy looking youthful though

Okay send me your pics!

I do enjoy looking youthful though Nope, wasn't directed at you or anyone else. It's just something I notice over and over again in posts, and it seems to start kicking in for some people around 30. It always make me wonder if there are people who look older than their age to balance all the people who look younger.
nsearch4u Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 43....divorced after 17 years. never thought i'd be here...i remember thinking just before my wife got caught in her affair that if i only lived to 60 then it meant i'd be able to make love to my wife for 20 more years....i was so excited.......lol... edit: not that just spending time with her wasnt equally as wonderful......the 20 yr thing was just something that i thought was nice.....
Chocolat Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 I have a theory about this 'looking younger than your age' thing. I think those of us who have looked after ourselves actually look the way we should look for our age - not younger. <snip> So, IMO, if you look young for age, you probably don't - you probably look exactly as you should.......it's the rest of the population that looks old! I agree with this to a large extent. And yes, I am over 40. The thing is, it's just like weight -- so many people are overweight, that those who aren't are perceived as being extraordinarily gifted in being slim. Likewise, those who have looked after themselves, as LT puts it, seem to be in a minority, so we are constantly hearing that we look much younger than we are. It may be that we actually look our ages and it's others who have aged poorly, but when you are in the minority and look good, it's treated as if it is a gift, rather than something earned.
Crazy Magnet Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 I think many times thin = young in many minds. I can wear the exact same clothes I did when I was 16 (almost 31 now). When I went back to take some undergrad classes at 27, all the 18 yo freshman thought I was also 18. It was amusing. When I say I'm going to graduate in 2013 most ppl assume it's from undergrad and ask me what my major is. ~sigh~ I do think I look really young. I looked about 12 when I started college. I think it has more to do with the fact that I slather on sunscreen every day, exercise, attempt to eat right, etc than anything else. I too wish we had age on the profile, I tend to listen to ppl who have 10-20 years on me, most of you know what you're talking about!
2sure Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 I'm 45, recently divorced for the 3 rd time , moved to buffalo 4 months ago and it is officially winter. I recently interviewed with an executive type dating service who told me that I should go back to NYC. Oh, and my 14 yo daughter just told me :Nah, I dont want to go to mexico on vacation again.
curlygirl40 Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 Curlygirl checking in at 40 years, 11 months and 15 days. So 41 really. Recently divorced after 20 years with the ex. I look damn good for 40 (hee hee) but feel like a 20 year old with all of the silly dating questions that I have. Since I'm so new (divorced officially 1 month ago) I appreciate all of the advice.
Pencil Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 38 in February but get mistaken for 27 all the time.
phineas Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 I'm 45, recently divorced for the 3 rd time , moved to buffalo 4 months ago and it is officially winter. I recently interviewed with an executive type dating service who told me that I should go back to NYC. I'm in the buffalo area. I'm not quite 40 though (39) however the woman I'm seeing friday night is 38 & has been online dating for a while I guess. We didn't meet online, but I'm going to go ahead & say there can't be too much out there if she's coming over to my place on a Friday night for my home-made chili & to decorate the Christmas tree. Did you look in the Rochester area?
JaneDoe35 Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 I guess it could be my unusual behaviour lately that makes people think I am younger! I am doing my 20's all over again - this time as a single 35 year old...

Cold this be a result of being in a very LTR or marriage, where you missed out on a good part of your younger years, and recently become single or something like that?
JaneDoe35 Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 Cold this be a result of being in a very LTR or marriage, where you missed out on a good part of your younger years, and recently become single or something like that? Yes, that pretty much sums it up. What else can I do? I will probably tire myself out soon anyway!

florence of suburbia Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 I'm 42 and I like the 40s so far. Feels like coming into my own. I'd say I'm a young 42, although I do have signs of aging, mostly around my eyes. My full lips keep me looking young, I've been told.
JaneDoe35 Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 Oh totally agree, what you meant by the bold part.? Going out a little too much, dancing till dawn......
