do you have to have a driver's license (if you still have some other photo I.D.) to check into a motel/hotel in the US?

I would think they'd care more about you having a credit card, at least to give an imprint with. Why don't you just call up a couple of reputable hotels and ask them what their requirements are for guests.....what type of ID, etc, is required. Tell them you don't have a driver's license, and would that be a problem. There must be tons of people out there who don't have one, for whatever reason, I doubt it's necessary.

As long as you have a valid ID (student ID, State ID) there shouldn't be a problem, unless you are under 18.
