i dont know abou the future but i believe it is pritty hard to tell somone else about there own past. i kno some psychics are frauds, but i doubt people would recommend me to this person. now if this psychic was a fraud in telling reading, i think she would definitly be out of business real fast.

maybe so bro. ya never know. There is a lot of stuff that happens that cannot be explained by logic or reason. But once you start dwelling in the unexplained realm organizational religious views always come to the forefront and it just depends in what you believe in.

Hey, dyer, I know I'm not befuddled11, but I'd like to chime in. I don't believe prophets are clairvoyent, and I don't think their main purpose was/is to predict the future. I believe God uses them to "re-direct" followers to a more holy way of life. Most prophets, in the Bible, at least, seem more concerned with the present than the future, though they may warn people about what the future holds should they continue with their selfish, self-destructive lifestyles.

in my opinion, psychics arent there to forsee the future, the future includes an infinate amount of possibilities - it isnt set in any particular path because we have our own choices. poor oedipus (ssp??) had things really bad. and we arent forced an unseen entity - good, bad or indifferent - to follow a destiny. spiritualists and clairaudients' purpose - and they do see themselves as offering a service as such, is to provide comfort and understanding to those suffering loss. not fortelling the future or performing parlour tricks. they help provide a sense of peace to those who have lost relatives and help them on their way to recovery.

i read tarot cards, and i see them as a tool of insight, i dont think i am psychic, and i dont know how they work but they do. when they offer information on the future, its in the context that if you continue your behaviour/on this course, this is a likely outcome. i use them as a prop and prompt to spiritual guidance.

to the original poster - what do you plan to do, if anything, with the information she gave you?

Having worked as a psychic for a while back in college -- no. Psychics are not real--they are trained in how to pick up on signals (verbal and non verbal) from their marks and to present information to the mark in such a way that it can be interpreted as seeing the future or reading an aura, or whatever type of psychic reading you want. It is 50% observation and 50% acting.

Psychics know that you will hear what you want to hear and how you want to hear it.

Psychics run a business, they have to have some sort of business license to collect money from the public or at leat the legitimate ones do. I'm willing to bet my house and car that the words "for entartainment purposeds only'" occur somewhere in their paperwork, just like it does on the old TV adds. Liabilty issues. Anyway reading Satan into a fortune teller is like reading Satan into a fortune cookie, a bit ridiculous. Pyschics just apply gross generalizations to people depending how they read them. They do this to put food on the table (albiet in a different way and mindset than the norm), not to be spawn's of Satan. Come on.

Hello? I certainly never said all psychics are satan's spawn. In fact, I said that most of them are quacks that "reveal" information that could apply to almost anyone......as you put it, gross generalizations. In fact, I do believe I listed some of the most common ones. I also gave an example from my own experience, many years ago, about how full of sh*t they can be (my lost college ring). If you're going to dispute my opinion, at least get my opinion straight.

I already said that I believe the vast majority of psychics and people of this sort are full of crap. Look at the old "Psychic Friends Network." I believe there was an article a long time ago, exposing the "psychics" they employed......many were just college girls or housewives, who were taught how to make gross generalizations, and learn to say the things the person paying 5.99 a minute wanted to hear. None of these people were hired because of their great psychic abilities.....it was all a sham.

However, if you talk to any pastor or priest or minister, or Christian who has intensely studied God's word, the Bible, there's plenty of reason that a person shouldn't get mixed up in this stuff. I'm not here to try and change anyone's mind, to each their own. THe original poster asked what we thought about psychics, I gave him my opinion. If someone doesn't agree with it, that's fine. I have no intention to try and change anyone's mind, nor will my mind be changed.

Yes, I beleive I would like to hear someone explain away what John Edwards does. I believe that the majority of people who claim to be pychics for money are big ole fakes. However there are some people who genuinely have some sort of perception of the other world, for some that can include seeing into the future...

I personally knew an old lady that was the Grandmother of a friend of mine who saw things. She knew things that would happen. She didn't do it for money, she didn't do if for fame, she only told people what she saw in an effort to prevent certain things. Most of the time she wouldn't even talk about it. I myself have dreams in which I see things that will happen. I have since I was a small child. They don't make any sense to me until it's happening. I have no way of changing what happens, I'm just shown what will happen. I don't know why or by who. I don't beleive it's from Satan or from God. I think some people have a certain extra-sensory perception of things...

I watched a great show on John Edwards. He uses a technique called "carpet bombing", in that he'll throw a BUNCH of stuff out there, common stuff that can be applied by a willing mind (It's like seeing images in the clouds, or hearing backwards messages in songs) to what one wants to hear. He'll pick up on something, and run with it. He's got great showmanship, but if you watch carefully, sometimes he misses like hell, which of course, he blames on the spirits :p

CaterpillarGirl, I understand that prophets weren't psychics traditionally, but certainly some predicted the future. John the Baptist predicted the coming of his cousin Jesus, and Joseph not only predicted tons of stuff with his dreams, but used his "powers" to rise to power in Egypt.

The lady I went to has been there for years. My mom said she remembers her being there when she was little.I think that if she was a fraud, she would have been given the boot a long time ago, and that has been about 35 years. My opinion only.!!

Most psychics are fake, but my aunt is a real one. She is actually used by the Arkansas State Police to help find missing people.

She came up for a family reunion. She can read palms, read minds, she's also a spiritualist. I only met her once when I was 5 years old. She went into my past and got very specific what things that went on in my life. I was with the ex-fiancee then. After telling me about my past, she asked me to goto a different room with her (away from the rest of my family), and asked if I wanted to know my future. I told her yes. The first thing she said to me was 'Jeff, you aren't going to marry Tara" (we were suppose to get married that year). I was defensive at first but then she said 'She is going to do something or is now that is going to hurt you very bad'. Two months later Tara left me for my now ex-best friend of 15 years. She was talking/flirting with him during this time I had this encounter with my aunt. The stuff she has told me about in my future has come true. She told me she could tell me the exact day when i'll die. But she said she doesn't give out that information. It would cause too much stress. She did tell me though I was going to live a long life. She also taught me some about palm reading.

I was very skeptical at first before meeting her, but now I know she is for real.

For ****s & giggles I went to one in Florida when I visited. I can tell she was a fake, she would get somethings wrong and when I would mention it, she always had a 'workaround' answer.

Its just a matter of finding a real one.. There are far & few out there, but they do exist.

once again, i find posters' optimism about the encompassing power of the police and the public to run frauds out of town is touching but very distrubing.

this is much more concerning to me than the naivete about psychics. do you *really* think all problematic businesses, all pyramid companies, all fradulent men and women, are sorted out by some mythical moral social strainer?

this is absurd. the government and the police can barely handle violent crime. what makes you think that they will oversee companies that legally rely on willing chumps to make a buck? chumps are a dime a dozen; there are easily enough lonely, desperate, chumps in the world to make any larger psychic company stay in business.

this is not classic evolution; it's social darwinism. businesses, chaotically formed, do not survive just because they are truly well-adapted to the economy. they survive because people are lonely, helpless, and friendless. they survive because they are predators on people who volunteer to be prey.

if you choose to be a chump, more power to you. but don't pretend that psychics' legitmacy can be demonstrated by their ability to make money - their profits only demonstrate your pain and need.

I got your PM jenny.. I'll reply to it later :)

Yes there are alot of people who live off the fear, loniliness, and insecurities of others. But that doesn't mean true 'psychics' don't exist. Just like x-ray vision, it's not a complete myth. There is a girl in russia who has what they call dual vision. She is able to actually see the insides of people ( http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm_855907.html )

I guess the only way to truly believe in a psychic is to have someone you know (family or a friend). Too bad you don't live closer to me, you could meet her when she visits again.
